C340 error

Yesterday I plugged in a Taco Bell near me and got fantastic directions to the site. One big problem, when I got to the Taco Bell my C340 showed me arriving there with the flag being right on the site. Now the problem - the mileage on the lower right side of the screen was showing me to go 1.1 more miles straight ahead. Weird! Has any one esle had this problem or is my unit going flakey? Still can return unit for a few more days.

The location must in the wrong place in the map database. I've seen it on a few locations. For places I want to revisit, I just create a Favorite in the correct location.

unit going flakey

Never had my unit to be off that much. But past experience most arrival sights are not right on the mark but are fairly close.

I assumed you picked the Taco Bell sight by using the food icon.Type the address in and see what happens. It would be interesting to know what you would at found 1.1 miles down the road.By chance did this Taco relocate from the area 1.1 miles farther down?

Here's an example.

Uppy's is a place where motorcyclists stop for gas and sodas. It is located in the picture where my Favorite is stored (the gas pump icon). The map database has it at the point where you see the same "Uppys Convenient". It's always been at the location where my Favorite is. My guess is that the address is geocoded incorrectly.

When I left the Taco Bell I

When I left the Taco Bell I went 1.1 miles down the road. Nothing was there except a big field. The arrival flag was exactly where the Taco Bell was; however, the directions indicated 1.1 more mile to go. Again WEIRD. Really have not paid attention to the mileage to arrival point before. Yesterday I didn't know where I was and was following directions exactly to the Taco Bell. Maybe from now on I will keep my eye the mileage to go. I bought my C340 at BESTBUY and can return it before the end of Jan. Just checked my receipt and saved all my boxes and what not. I do like my C340 because of the price I paid for it and the features for the money.

Weird. Probably just an anomaly.

I do like my C340

I have had my c340 since Sept.I used it to drive from VA to FL and have used it locally to find new places to check out.I just got back from leaving central FL to Fort Walton Beach FL on the pan handle about 800 miles round trip.I have been more then satisfied with my unit.I did get rid of the window mount and replaced it with the dash mount a Christmas present from my son.I have gotten so use to the voice directions that I hardly look at the screen anymore.Check your settings out closely.I had to turn on some of the features.Make sure the WAAS is turned on.This site will get you info on it http://www8.garmin.com/aboutGPS/waas.html

I experienced something like this as well yesterday...

Looked for the location for a Hockey equipment shop in Nashua. The Garmin had the wrong location completely, but that wasn't the odd part. When I went to the location it told me to go to, I came off an offramp then straight down the road until it got to the end and at a T in the road. The Garmin indicated I was there. This is when I discover the unit had the wrong address.

OK so knowing that wasn't correct, I went left and drove a mile or so down. Nope that wasn't the area. So I told the Garmin to take me back to the same location (at the T in the road). It directs me back, but this time instead of stopping at the T, it had me continue on past the T for about a mile. This time it got me to the right address it was supposed to, although the shop I wanted still wasn't there.

So to sum up my experience is that originally the Garmin had me finish about a mile away from the address and only after I moved in the other direction from the address and then re-requested the same address did it send me back to the right location (for that address, but still the wrong address for the business, perhaps an old location for that business).

In the end I used my cell phone to text Google for the correct address then entered that into the GPS and this time successfully travelled to the shop (a few exits back down the highway).

Garmin nüvi 200 (my first GPS), 780, & 3700 Series. And a Mac user.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice. Trust me it is on my watch list. I will review all my settings and what not. Think all are OK, but who knows. I have not tried the WAAS yet.

My problem has been that I just listen to the voice and not watch screen.

Map errors

We all need to report any map errors we find using our units. With all the members on this site we could bring about some large map corrections. Here is the web site to do that.

C340 Error

I doubt if the unit has a problem, it is more likely the mapping. Was the Taco Bell on the left side of the road? My unit often has me going way past a location, then coming back because it does not think that a left turn is possible due to a median in the road or it thinks the only entrance is on a side street.

You learn to ignore those anomalies and just report them like Charlie indicated.

You know I think that was the problem the Taco Bell was on the left side of the road and it was a mile to a turn around. However, since I saw the Taco Bell I made a turn a wee early since I didn't see the way in. Maybe the C340 is smarter than I am!

I've seen this near my work.

I've seen this near my work. The parkway that feeds this office complex has a median with periodic turnarounds, but the one at my building is not on any maps, so everything I've tried wants me to continue on to the roundabout at the end and come back.
