Hello everyone. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I just wanted to ask, I'm a newb, to see if you all thought I'd be eligable for at leaste a discount on map updates for both my units. I bought a c330 and a c530 in Nov. of 07. They are regestered and need the update. I just sent an oppropriatelly written email to Garmin with a request for a discount. I certainally can not see spending another $140 on updates after just purchasing both units, and won't! I drive over the road and have allot of respect already for their products- they help me every day and even help keep the people around me safer. I enjoy knowing my wife and baby have one with them while I'm away from home also. I understand that information equalls money, but expect that if I purchase an item new-I shouldn't immediatelly have to drop another 140 to get them up to date. What do you guys think? I appoligize, I realize this had come up before. Just wanted an opionioin and see what your current experiences and knowledge base are. Thanks.
This would have been a good subject to hit search..there are many very long threads on this topic..But to help you The Best thing to do is Set up and Register your Units on MyGarmin.com the advantage to that is When you register they know you have the units and what Software is on them. Most of the time when you register, at least with the 530 it will tell you that you need the new software and it will send it to you automatically...Welcome and read here for more advice..
Call Tech help they will send you the upgrade free.
Allso a New-b
The thread I had read were wishy washy, some got it free, some didn't. Also, I've read that the c530 wasn't eligable. Hence I posted this to get a more current account of realivant to my situation type of feedback. I appoligize for wasting your time and thank you for your reply.
Not sure about c530, but the thread here suggests that if you bought a few months after the last map update, your chances of getting a free upgrade is very good.
