When I plug my nuvi 200 into my computer and right click on it and go to properties, it shows the total internal capacity to be 991 mbs or roughly one gig.
But once you factor in all the maps and other misc files it comes out to be about 30 megs of free space for you to use.
You can increase this free space by deleting files on the nuvi.
I recommend backing these up before deleting.
Things that you can safely delete:
In the voice folder you can remove any voice files you don't want/need. I kept the english_american_.sum and the English_American_.vpm files.
In the text folder do the same and delete all unnecessary language files.
In the vehicles file delete all vehicle models that you don't use.
I'm sure you could also delete the basemap file in the main Garmin folder although I wouldn't recommend it.
