POIs ended up in Favorites

I loaded a WalMart POI file onto my Nuvi 260 and they ended up in the favorites instead of custom POIs. How do I remove them without doing them one at a time? There are hundreds of them..... And how did they get in there? lol

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I do not believe it is possible to load custom POIs into the favorites other than one at a time as you save then on the GPSr

Also, I don't think anyone has figured out how to remove a preloaded POI from the favorites. If you have done it, we would all love to know how to do so. smile

Did you copy a .gpx file to the Nüvi, instead of using POI Loader to load it? That would give that effect.

The Nuvi 660 is seriously lacking in features, this may be a work around.

If I created a bunch of waypoints in MapSource of lets say, driveway sales. Named them something like 01, 02, 03, 04, etc. for the order I wish to travel to them, exported them as gpx .... I could copy them to my Nuvi and they will be listed in my favorites??? What directory should I copy them to?

Doesn't Mapsource do this?

I haven't tried it myself, but I beleive if you upload the POIs directly from Mapsource, you have a choice to make them favorites.

If you copy them to the GPX folder on the nuvi, you should see them as Favorites (or be able to import them as Favorites).

POI to favorites

Yes, i did it couple times and it's working fine

If you put a GPX file on the SD card

If you put a GPX file on the SD card the nüvi will load them into Favorites when you turn it on, and delete the GPX file from the SD card.

That's what happens with my 200.

Awww, I did the same thing by accident. I've only got about 200 more to delete. Ugh.

Doing a soft reset will delete all favorites.

You are correct! Since I have only entered about 5 favorits that I actually want to save.

Care to explane to a new user how to do this soft reset?
Thanks!

Soft reset...

I serched and didn't come up with anything. Can someone tell me how to do this soft reset, to delete my favorites list.

Thanks!

Hard Reset

On the c530, it is a hard reset that needs to be done. This is accomplished by holding your finger in the right hand corner (as far as you can go) while powering up the unit. You loose your favorites and also any personal settings like time, language, etc., but these are easily replaced.

or...

I know that on the nuvi 350 that you have an option to delete all favorites AND custom POIs (which you can load back later). On the 350, you have to go to "Where to" and then at the bottom you see "Reset"

removing favorites

c340 touch location in favorite touch edit touch

dont know if it works the same with other Garmin models

Reset NUVI 750 and delete all favorites

1.- Power off the GPS
2.- Press and hold the right bottom corner
3.- Power on
4.- System asks if you are sure to delete all custom data and setting.
5.- If you answer "yes" next screen looks like brand new device

Does this...

... delete custom POI's too?

yes, it does

5.- If you answer "yes" next screen looks like brand new device

Reset on 750

Holding lower right corner of screen on my Nuvi 750, powering on and answering "yes" DID NOT delete any of my POIs (which I didn't want to do anyway since I wanted to reset for another reason). The reset did put the unit back into it's factory condition setting wise (including a long time to acquire satellies just like the first time). I'm not sure if this reset would have deleted my favorites and routes since I had already deleted them beforehand using the separate option the 750 has for this. I think I saw a comment on another site that this kind of reset on the 600 series did not delete favorites, notwithstanding answering yes, on that series (and I suspect the 700 would be the same), but I haven't tried.

Didn't work for me,

Didn't work for me, either.

All the POI's are still there in my favorites list.

My previous favorites are all gone.

The reset procedure is going to delete favorites not POI!

pois in favorites

hoi,
but how do i get pois into favorites if i want that?
now the icons are shown when you're almost there.
but not for example the fuel stations or campings ahead along the programmed route.
and how do i switch off the pois so they do not cover the streets when zoomed in?
same for roadnumbers.when zoomed out it hard to follow the ways, the picture is covered by roadnumbers.how to switch on/off at any scale?
and last but not least, how to show highway exits
further away than only the first to come?

I finally got around to

I finally got around to removing all the Wachovia banks from my Favorites (I never really wanted them in there). Here's how I did it (Nuvi 200):
1. Connected the Nuvi to my computer with a USB cable.
2. Started MapSource, and chose "Transfer", "Receive from device", "Waypoints". This copied all my favorites into MapSource. I then highlighted and deleted all the ones I didn't want to have in Favorites.
3. I disconnected the Nuvi, and then reset it by pressing the lower right-hand corner of the screen while turning it on. This deleted everything from the Favorites list (and put Garmin, Garmin Europe, etc. back in). I reset my time zone, etc.and deleted the Garmin locations.
4. I then turned off the Nuvi, reconnected it to the USB cable. From MapSource I chose "Transfer", "Send to device", "Waypoints". This loaded my edited list of favorites back into the Nuvi.

When I disconnected the Nuvi and turned it on, my favorites list was restored, without all the bank locations that I didn't really want to have to wade through. The process did not affect my vehicles files or the .jpg files on the Nuvi.

Maybe most of us already knew how to do this, but the subject comes up now and again, and I think using MapSource is an easy way to accomplish this task - much better than deleting them one at a time.

I agree, that is the easiest way to do it - I just cleaned out a bunch of "Favorites" I had made for our last 5500 mile trip. Restaurants, motels etc !

I hope I divided your questions up correctly. Just a tip, it makes in easier for others to read and understand your questions if you use a little bit of capitalization and punctuation.

You can either copy the GPX files to your unit or open the GPX files in MapSource and send them from there. You can't do it directly with CSV files.

Not exactly sure what you are asking. Custom POI icons or built-in POI icons? You probably need to zoom in further if you want to see the POIs on the map screen.

You can change you Map Detail level by going to Settings > Map > Map Detail > and select something other that "Most"

There's no way to adjust this. You might be able to browse the map and zoom in, but this probably isn't practical while driving.

switch off or on build in POIS

When zooming in at a certain scale the built in POIS
icons shows up.If you want it or not.No problem in the dessert, but in citycenters the map is covered by so many build in POIS that you cant see the streets any more.
Also when you plan a long route on the GPS,you can hardly see and follow the motorways, the screen is filled up with roadnumbers.
So is it possible to switch them on or off?
I like to have the choise to popup on the screenmap tankstations or other POIS along the route I have programmed,on a longer distance without digging into the build in POIS list and find out where they actually are situated on the map.
Since the favorite-icons are shown on a longer distance I like to transfer POIS to that catergory, however,I understood that only 500 items fits in.

obs:In Europe the Nuvi760 comes standard without MapSource.
It costs you(me)Euro 110,00 = US$ 140,00

The only way to control this is with the Map Detail function described above.

Nope, it's not possible to edit that part of the map data except maybe by zooming out.

Nope, this isn't possible either. You can't make any of the POIs "pop up". The best thing to do is to either stop and browse the map or the menus. Or plan in advance and put some in your Favorites.

Yeah, you only have 500 but in reality if you plan in advance and are selective, this should really be plenty for most applications.

None of the nuvis come with MapSource. Many people in the US have been successful at getting it for free from Garmin by calling and requesting it. Not sure about Europe, though.

Can you delete...

Can you delete everything in favorites by deleting the current.gpx file in the GPX folder without hurting anything? Then reload the fvorites you want from MapSource? This for nuvi 260?

Just looked at my current.gpx.. the only things in there were my favorites. It will be fine.. and painless.

rapriebe wrote:

I use PoiEdit Rick so cannot say. Right-click your current.gpx file, it can be edited with NotePad.

Nope

rapriebe wrote:

I can't speak for all models, but certainly on the 3xx series this doesn't work. The current.gpx file is a copy of the actual favorites, which are stored in a different format in another file, and that file is not possible to edit (at least none of us know how). If you delete any of the items in current.gpx, they just come back when you restart.

If you add things to current.gpx, they'll be added to favorites, but deleting doesn't work.

The only way to permanently delete your favorites is either manually one at a time, via MapSource, or on some models by doing the hard factory reset.

Don

What I would do is copy over

What I would do is copy over the current.gpx file and then take what I didn't want out. Then clear all my favorites (on the 350 you can do this, but not on all models) and then place the gpx file back onto the nuvi and the nuvi will put the newly edited gpx contents in my favorites again.
