Garmin POI Loder can't find any CSV files

My sales team all use Garmin Nuvi 350's and I have a 660 that I use. I'm trying to set up their units so they can find all the people they call on in the memory instead of entering all of the addresses individually. I've been able to get the coordinates from a program that reads the address and I've put them in a CSV file, as well as a txt file with notepad.

We all have Vista for an OS and we have Office 2007. When I save the file as a CSV Comma Deliminated, the POI program never sees it. I can't find any way for the POI loader to actually recognize the file. It also doesn't recognize the .txt file.

I have found a program that converts the CSV to GPX. I named the file Practice.gps and put it in the GPX folder on the Nuvi. It pulled all the files into my favorites and mixed them up with all the other locations I've saved over the months.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with the POI loader or does it not work with Vista? It didn't find the files on a Mac Mini either when I tried with the MAC version of the POI Loader.

Also, will it always dump all the files into the favorites categories or can I have a seperate button for sales locations so that their favorites are not filled with hundreds of locations?

I'm wondering if it's my CSV file as I loaded the MAC version of the POI Loader on our new MAC Mini and it couldn't find the CSV files either. I've saved the Excel file as a CSV (comma deliminated) and I've renamed the notepad file to "practice.csv" and that did not get found either. I only have two lines in the excel file. The header line (longitude lattitude description) and then the one single entry while I learn how to do this which has longitude lattitude numbers and then the description of Dr. Smith. I just can't figure out what to do next. All the poi loader says is select the location where the data can be found and then it never finds a single file.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm stuck here and I tried the Garmin support number but their phones were busy and when I did get through, it said the wait was more than a half hour. Guess the people who received one for Christmas must have some questions too.

Hi! New user of a Garmin

Hi!

New user of a Garmin also (model 200).

I too couldn't get the POI loader to work until I read a tip on one of these boards. The trick is, you are not supposed to pick individual files, but instead put your CSV files into their own folder, then in POI pick the FOLDER (not the files in it).

The POI Loader will then process all files in that folder and put them on the Garmin.

Seems weird that you can not pick an actual file (as that is the intuitive way to do it). So remember, FOLDER not file.

Great advice

PT,

Thank you very much. I'll get that a shot at work tomorrow to see what happens. I hope you are right on this one. I did drop the file in a folder but I double clicked on the folder, not select the folder and hit ok. So we'll see what happens.

Thanks,
John

.

Yes, select the folder. But before you try to load that file, take the header information out of it. That will only cause errors. You want the file to only have data.

You were right on

Selecting the folder is exactly what I needed to do. I was able to get it to load and now all I need to do is create the full file for my team and they are ready to go.

Thanks everyone.
