Maximum POI's for nuvi 350?

What's the maximum number of POI's you can have installed on nuvi 350? Anyone run into limitations? I'm only at 12,000 right now and it doesn't even seem to blink at that amount.

Nuvi POI's

I just got a Nuvi 360 for Christmas and it is my first GPS. I was surprised at the POI's that were NOT loaded for the Baton Rouge La. area (e.g- major retailers at the largest mall in the area or wal marts in the area.

Does anyone know how POI's are chosen in the first place? All in all I love the Nuvi. Easy to use, small, accurate, but it would be nice if the POI icons showed up on the screen where you could see what you were close to, touch the icon and the info would pop up, as in the Magellans.

Max POIs

Joe,

I load my POIs to the SD card instead of the Nuvi itself. The number of POIs would only be limited by the size of the card you have installed. I have a 1 gb card installed, and it is loaded with pictures, MP3s, and POIs, and I haven't even scratched the surface of its capability yet. I haven't answered your question (sorry) but have perhaps provided a way to relieve your concerns. When you use POI loader, just direct it to your SD card instead of the Nuvi itself. A new menu item shows up called "custom POIs" under WHERE TO/MY LOCATIONS.

Cheers......

Anyone know how many POIs

Anyone know how many POIs can be loaded to a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx?

Also, if I use POIs instead of waypoints for geocaching, I could get a warning whenever I'm near a cache and never actually get where I'm going as I'd always be distracted.

Interesting idea but it might become annoying in practice.

Maximum POI's

Can't speak for the Garmin GPSMap 60CSx, but, as of this morning, my StreetPilot C330, wlll hold at least, 27,122 POI's. Will try for more later. Someone should probably look into breaking down some of the larger files, by state, like the Cemeteries-Northeast, Cemeteries-Widwest. I would, if I knew where the source data came from.

POI's on Nuvi 360

I have over 32,000 custom POI's on my Nuvi 360 and still climbing. Once I hit a wall, I guess I'll have to start deleting some of the sample mp3's and foreign language voices lol.

I did just that (after making a back-up of everything)...I deleted all of the voice files I know I'll never use, and the help files in the same languages as the voice files. Makes more room on my 660 for custom poi files. smile

Backing Up Your GPS

Good point. People should be aware that they should be backing up their GPS onto their PC before they start playing with files, as well as in case of a system corruption.

Thanks, Keith, I went to this site, saw nothing about Street Pilot C330, lots on NUVI's. What am I missing here... Sorry, if I'm wrong, but the only back up would seem to be self-generated POI's as everything else is built into this unit and not available to the user and is embedded on internal chips. As for the self-generated POI's, I would hope we all back up our hard drive from time to time. I know I'm still new here, so maybe I'm missing something else. I know you and others have been very helpful, so would like to learn how to do this and couldn't gleen anything from the discussion you pointed to.

Missed the C330 part...

When attached to the computer does a C330 show up as a USB storage device? If it does, it can be backed up just like a Nuvi. Otherwise, you'd be limited to dealing with custom POIs.

No it doesn't. With so many models, I'm not sure how you and MM and others can possibly remember what unit does what. I'm impressed by everyone's knowledge and perfectly understand how impossible it is to stay ahead. You guys are super. To bad all units don't behave the same, but guess that's progress?? Thanks, Keith for all you do for this site and the ignorance of the rest of us, I for one really appreciate the help.
