nuvi 650

My brother in law just received an early Christmas present of a Nuvi 650. I helped him get up to speed with it. We put his home into the device and had it calculate a route from my parents.

The route created was not the normal set of roads he has always taken, but followed the instructions. He called back and said the Nuvi route was quicker and worked great - he says he really loves his new Nuvi.

From Costco?

The 650 for $300 from Costco is impossible to beat. I have been recommending it to dozens of friends.

Got one too

I got one too and love it. I like the picture capability, and the Mp3. It is also a great GPS, very quick to recalculate, and also love the big screen...

The only feature I wish it had were bread crumb.

Nice....

Got one from the earlier costco deal. Have anyone tried the mp3 player while driving? Does it skip for no reason?

MP3 skip

No problem.

Is the problem occur always with the same MP3 file ?

If yes delete these song.
If not a file is corrupted. Make a copy of your mp3 files to your computer then delete the mp3 filed from your gps.

Restart your gps. After that reinstall your mp3 files on your GPS. That should correct the problem.

Best regards

Re: MP3 Skip

I'm using a SD card to store my MP3s. It skips on normal play for any song and it also does it when my GPS informs of POI point and directions for turning. Don't think it's a file issue since it plays the songs fully.

Nice....

Haven't had any problem w/ the MP3. It cuts out for directions, but that's expected. My car has a jack for the speakers and I'm getting good sound out of a 2GB card.

Haven't tried the m3 feature yet

but yes, the costco deal is great and the unit arrived today - one day after Xmas.

My only regret is that the unit doesn't/can't store a pre-planned route - how awesome would it be to do a google map route and store it on the 650!

Speak Street Names

I got my 650 and I love it. I was under the impression that it had the capability to speak street names. Was I wrong? or is it a setting that I need to activate? I'm still happy with it if it does not.

.

For street names to be announced, you need to be sure you are selecting a voice that has TTS after it.

street names

Your 650 will speak street names. You prob have the voice setting wrong. When you go to voice settings, look for the one with TTS next to it, like American Jack. Select it and you should be good to go.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info about the TTS. I had no clue about that option. I'm going to check it now...

TTS... Duh

TTS: Text To Speech

I guess I must have just skimmed over that section in the manual. It work just as I had hoped.
