Topo Maps on Nuvi

I have a Garmin US Topo mapset. Does anyone know how to install parts of it on the Nuvi? Once on, can you switch from street maps to the topo maps, or do you have to install one or the other.

TIA

I use Mapsource to load the 24K National Parks East topo on my Nuvi 650. Works great.

The topo map is on the SD card. It can be turned on and off under map info.

The SD card I have is a micro SD in an adapter so I can take it out of the adapter and switch the card with topo map to the GPSMap 60CSx which uses a micro SD.

.

In MapSource, select the map tiles that you want to load using the Map Tool. They will show up in the Maps tab on the left side of the screen. At the bottom of the tab, it will show you the number of tiles selected and the size of the map file that will be loaded.

Be aware that you can't load more than 2025 segments regardless of the size. Also, be aware that, similar to POI Loader, each time you send maps to the card, it will create a new map file overwriting any supplemental maps that have been previously loaded. Note that this does not affect the preloaded maps.

As stated above, both maps can coexist on the unit, but you have to turn the City Navigator maps off in order to see the Topo maps.

I remember initially liking the fact that I could pick and choose smaller areas in the topo map, until I finally got a handheld that had the capacity to hold them all and ran into this limit. sad

I am glad to know that no one has had problems doing this. We are headed out of town for a few days soon and I will report the success / failure of the topo maps on the GPS.
