Variable Mileages

Interesting though strange. I have a c330 and c530 both are great at what they do best. That is guiding you to various locations. In planning a trip from Northern Virginia (I-81 corridor) to Bainbridge Georgia. I put the destination in the 330 and got the mileage and saved the trip. My wife likes to look at a map so I entered both directions into mapsource as waypoints. I made sure the settings were the same for avoidances, etc. When I created the route there was almost a 200 mile difference (higher). Just to see what would happen I entered the same address in the 530 and the returned mileage was 76 miles different (higher). Both are fully updated and the settings (speeds, avoidences, routes, etc.)are the same. Since the 330 reported the shortest distance we decided to use it as our guide (-: for this trip. Why the difference? I have checked both units for settings and they're the same.

try doing it on the 330 and

try doing it on the 330 and the 530 three different times and see if you get different distances. I would assume no, but not sure. This is interesting.

Were either of them upgraded

Were either of them upgraded recently? If so one of them may need to be reset. I might even consider resetting both of them and doing the route over to see if then they are the same.

re-entry

I actually re entered the info after checking that all settings were the same. So after two times with the same result for both I decided to post the question. Both were hard reset after the 2006 map updates and once more after the last system update from Garmin. We'll verify the actual miles after the trip.

Thanks

upgrade-reset

Both were hard reset after the 2008 map update and again after the last system update from Garmin. I did a reset and tried the same route again with the same result.
They are close compared with Mapsource though and it's setup (in preferences) for the same avoidances and speeds and etc. I'm going to enter a few waypoints to make sure both are actually using the same route and see what happens.

What version of Maps

Mr Crashmanager - what version of maps are you using? It could be possible that nav has changed the distance on some of the highways and if you are not using the same map base - then there is your difference.

Maps

Both 330 and 530 are fully updated with the 2008 maps. I got them both (map CDs) free from Garmin when I added the units to My Garmin registration page on their site and did the updates as soon as they were received. I checked them both with webupdater and both are up to date. I sent an email to Garmin Tech Support and I'll see what they come up with (in a few weeks).
