For the mods/admin

Is there ever going to be an option to add animated "smileys" in our posts? Directly viewable linked pictures in actual posts from Photobucket, Shutterfly, etc?

We will have to look at it

We will have to look at it and see if it is compatible with our web features.

Please do not bump things, we will get back to you.

Miss POI

I hope the final answer is "No."

I'm a big fan of the "KISS" principle that I learned in college when writing for mass-media: keep it simple, stupid. One of the nice things about this place for me is the clean, simple look to the forum. Some may think that's boring...but not me.

Just like the features on

Just like the features on your GPS. If you don't want them, don't use them and you'll never be the wiser.

Heck, even Miss POI uses text based smilies...such as this one. wink

It's a value proposition...

I'm all in favor of changes and additions IF they provide some sort of purpose. The big question here: "If you leave out the smileys ( typed or icons ), does the information or posting suffer"?

I hope that we would all agree the answer is "no", and that's the answer I'd give to the original request.

I agree I like the way

I agree I like the way things are set up now.

personally i don't care

as long as the refresh rate of the site isn't compromised. My 2 cents worth.

Funny how so many people

Funny how so many people want this plain old site yet whine all day long about the features left out of their Nüvis... :roll eyes:

And drdevo, I guess you'd be fine with watching TV/movies in non HD black and white, too? After all, you're still getting the same information, right? As for the smilies, they do add information, such as an indication of something said in jest as text is not a good conveyance of things like that. Like they always say, a picture is worth a thousand words...

Adding features is generally a good thing and the ... that don't want to use them don't have to and shouldn't hold the rest of the class back. wink

Gee, I wonder why...

Since we paid good money for our GPSr, we have the right to expect features/functionalites from it. All in all this site is free and we are grateful for the contributions and support from Ms POI and JM. ( though some of us don't seem to appreciate that fact )

Oh, I appreciate this site.

Oh, I appreciate this site. If I didn't, I wouldn't participate. All I'm asking for is basic features that 99.9% of all the other internet forums have. Even the basic YaBB (Yahoo) boards have smilies and the ability to directly display linked pictures in posts.

Huh?

Um. Guys? Whats the point of the volley? I'm a techie by trade. I love technolgy. But what one wants and needs from technology is different for each of us. I disdain digital watches. More so, I hate html in e-mail. Give me plain text. But I love my Dolby Surround sound system. So, some for things I like simple, sometimes I like more "features". As far as the ability to use smileys here, I can take it or leave it.

So why the insistance that if someone doesn't agree that it must be "all or nothing"? I just don't understand.

Love it like this

I am on a few other Forums that have Gif files for avatars, and allow the Gif smileys..and embedded pictures...and I am sorry but it is Annoying..and takes longer to load..and go through threads....I really like the way this is run...And feel it should stay this way..

Not for pics in threads.

The problem I have seen in other sites with embedded pictures, it makes the page sooooooo long cause the pictures take up so much room.
