Nuvi 650 custom poI PROBLEMS!!

I,m having a problem trying to upload custom POI's to my nuvi 650.I have used the poi loader and get the confirmation that they were all successfully loaded, but when i look int the "extras" folder for custom poi's its empty.Did some reading on the site and looks like i,m not the only one having problems. The unit has very little free space on it (supposed to be 700mb internal i saw less than 50mb of space on mine)so i deleted some unnecessary mp3 files etc. Also bought a 2g card, but still not working. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks!!!

if you can see it, press it

From the menu ►Where To ►Extras, press it you should then see "Custom POIs" press that.

I'm not sure what you mean "when you look in the extras folder"

If you are looking in the actual file system of your nuvi, look in the "garmin" folder then look in the "poi" folder inside you should find "poi.gpi" that would be the poi file(S) you just loaded.

make sure you direct poi loader as to the location you want the poi upload to go..internal or SD

Each time you run poi loader, it will rewrite the poi.gpi file and it will only contain the last files you loaded via poi loader.

Storage space

To get more room in the unit, you can delete all the voices that you know you will never use, also there are foreign language help files, jpeg files, audible files, extra vehicles. That should get you plenty of space.

More space

Also, you can delete the manuals. Back them up to your PC. I also did what ralphy1 said and I have enough space internally to load many POI's (120,000) without using my SD Card. I put music and pix on the SD.

Still having problems adding POI"s

Thanks for the info. When i mentioned the "extras" folder,it is the folder that keeps the custom POI's in it through the 650 menu.I did look at the folder and noticed the "poi.gpi" that i recently loaded.BUT when i power up the unit and go to the poi folder still no custom poi,s.I've been doing more research and am thinking the files .csv or gpx dont fair well with the 650 because of the "line breaks" in the format. i,ll keep on trying to figure it out! CHEERS!

let's back up..

If you look in the folder system...obviously you have if you are looking at the poi.gpi file.

You will not see any of your individual poi in there. The csv and gpx are quite compatible and the only extensions that can be used.

When you load a csv or gpx using Garmin's poi loader it will convert them to a gpi file.

Once loaded on your 650, you access your poi by going to your ►where to ►extras you should then see "Custom POI's" press that, and the 50 closest to your current location show up.

To edit any of the poi data ie location/name/address info etc, you must edit the csv or gpx using something like notepad or excel or a number of other editors and then, reload utilizing Garmin's poi loader.

Again, you can't take a csv or gpx file and copy it to the "garmin" ► "poi" folder. It may reside in the folder but is usless until it's loaded using Garmin's poi loader.

I hope this is clear.
