C320, C340 Discontined

I was over at the Garmin site and these are "discontinued" I wonder if they will be supported with any software updates in the future.

Garmin support

This is the answer I got from Garmin on the c340.I thought when I purchased it I was getting the updated model for the c330 that was going to be replace. One thing that sold me on the model was that it says the street names.Used it a lot and well satisfied with it.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International, this model has been
discontinued which means we are no longer going to manufacture it. We
will still fully support it with software updates and mapping updates.

Support

While I was there on the Garmin site I looked at the discontinued models and saw in the download section that there were software updates for all the other models. Thats good..

Its good they support the

Its good they support the products. I have read on many forums that the c330 does not have enough memory to hold the Updated US and Canada maps together so you have to make a choice on which one to install.

Others have said load US

Others have said load US first, then load Canada and there is room....dunno if that's true.

C330

load US

Based on answer from Garmin to one of the members on forum you have to make choice between the two.I don't have a c330 so I have not tried it but standard answer from 330 users on the forums are that they are getting the same feed back.Maybe someone who owns a c330 and has uploaded the new 2008 maps can add some input.

Load US to unit and then load others to the SD card.

I see no reason why that wouldn't work but after reading another post on this subject Garmin says you can not do that.I copy and pasted part of the Garmin reply

Unfortunately it is not possible to take the other part of the map update you didn?t load and load it to an SD card. However, you can switch back to the other region from the DVD that you didn?t load, but cannot put it on an SD card or have both regions loaded to your device at the same time.

Garmin does offer a preloaded SD card for City Navigator Canada NT for $79.99. I have provided a link to this map accessory below.

I have a c330 and have loaded the lower 48 to the c330 and the Canada & Alaska data to a SD card. Have NOT reversed the order, the only limitation would be the size of the SD card. Since I'm using a 512mb SD card, don't think (but am not positive) the lower 48 will fit on it. For me this works just fine. Have no problem routing from US address to Canada address with this configuration, and can see the POI built-ins just as if all were loaded in main unit. Do a search on this site for how this is done. Hope this helps...

Makes you wonder about

Makes you wonder about information the member received.Maybe someone new at Garmin. Most times I find their info right on line and can only say good things about the support from Garmin.

No problem

No problem with my C330 - I loaded lower US maps on GPS and Canada & Alaska on SD card.
Unit reads both sets of data just fine ! I can access Canada maps and info just fine just by making sure the SD cards is firmly inserted. I normally leave the SD card a little loose as I feel the GPS runs faster without the additional load.
And I'm not planning to go to Canada or Alaska within the next 6 months as I live in FL.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!
