Can you find GPI files stored on your data card?

I placed some mp3 and jpg files on my 4gb storage card of my 680, as well as some gpi or tour files. The mp3 files show up when I pull up the mp3 player and the jpg files show up when I bring up the pictures viewer but I can find nowhere that the gpi or tour files can be found. Perhaps I should have stored them on the internal storage under 'extras'. I'm not sure if the GPI files will play when I encounter the location of the file. Since I am not loading them from the POI loader on my computer and setting proximity alerts, I don't see how an alert will occur but I think there are automatic proximity alerts set within the files so maybe it will still work. Just wondered if anyone else had installed them on their data cards and if it still worked.

Yes.

Yes, you can have .gpi files on the SD card, but, you're normally asked if you want to copy them to internal storage (which you can decline). But if it's not asking that question, it implies it's not finding them...

Depending on where the .gpi files have come from (and therefore, what 'flavour' they are), they might show up in "Travel Kit", rather than Extras. (But I think the missing question is the clue!)

Hi, well, I didn't load them

Hi, well, I didn't load them from poi loader. I just placed the storge card in the USB port and copy and pasted the gpi files onto the card. Maybe I should go back and load them on the internal memory. I looked in the travel kit and could not find them anywhere. NOt sure where to even look. There isn't a folder in 'travel kit' for media card, except under 'pictures'. Perhaps if I want to actually 'see' the gpi files, I am going to have to load them with the poi loader so they will show up under 'extras'.

When you use POI Loader it

When you use POI Loader it will create it in the POI folder on the storage card. If you manually copy you .gpi file you have to put it in the right folder. If I remember correctly, the directory structure is \garmin\poi

Maybe I wasn't clear. I did

Maybe I wasn't clear. I did not load it onto my storage card using poi loader. I draged and dropped it onto the card. There is no folder on the data card. And apparently there isn't one on the unit, itself, because I cannot find the gpi files anywhere on the 680. If you know of a folder on the 680 to look for the gpi files, let me know. I'll call Garmin tomorrow, they will know.

Look in the garmin -> poi

Look in the garmin -> poi folder you should see the poi.gpi file. the storage card will need the same directory structure as the 680.

Sorry, you have totally lost

Sorry, you have totally lost me on that one. On my computer I do have a POI folder with my poi csv's, gpx, etc.. The gpi files are not in it. I kept them on a flash drive and copied the gpi files directly from the flash drive to the media card and then poped the media card into the 680. I am not aware if the 680 has a poi folder on it.

Try this: on your storage

Try this: on your storage card create a garmin folder, inside the garmin folder create a poi folder and put your gpi file in the poi folder.
See if this works.

Hey, that's sounds like a smart idea. I'll try and let you know what happens. Maybe then it will be viewable in the "extras" folder of the 680. Thanks for the suggestion.

Bingo! At first, after I

Bingo! At first, after I popped the card into the 680 slot, it said nothing was found on the card and ask me if I wanted to copy to the unit. So, I said yes and it copied all of the gpi files direcly into my 'extra' folder under 'custom poi's'. Now they all show in my 'extras' folder. Thank you.
