POI File Alert

When making a poi file if you put a number with the file the poi loader will use it as an alert for speed but does anyone know how to put feet in the file so you dont have to manually do it with the poi loader because if you got a lot of poi files it takes forever Thanks

I would like to know also.

Add Redlight to file name

If you add the word "Redlight" to the POI file name then all locations within that file will give a proximity alert.

At least with a Nüvi, "redlight" in the file name results in 1320 ft (1/4 mi or 400 m) default alert distance. "Speed" in the file name results in 1969 ft (600 m) default.

Has anyone come across other keywords for a default alert distance?

Check POI Loader

Check the help section of POI Loader. You'll find several there. Just a few are:
"GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "speed," or "camera" have a default alert speed of 0, which means you will always be alerted.

I agree with the first one, but I can't reproduce the second one. The tests I did, indicate that all the 'magic' words (redlight, speed, gatso) etc generate identical 1/4 mile Proximity alerts. "Redlight" is special, in that it can't be overridden by the presence of a number. The rest can, and become Speed alerts instead (as though the keyword wasn't present).

Tried different file names

Maybe it's my setting somewhere. "Redlight" gave me 1320 ft, whereas all others gave me 1969 ft.

Scratching my head....

Strange.

and there's definitely no numbers in the file name - and no speed information showing on the Nüvi?

This is my test file (called Speed_alerts.csv)

-2,53,xyzzy1,"test 1"
-2.1,53.1,xyzzy2,"test 2"

Using Garmin's GPI_Viewer, I see an Alert Proximity of 402m (it works in metric). I tried it on my StreetPilot C510 and Nüvi 310 (in case they were overriding the settings - both said 1320' (I work in Imperial!). POI Loader is V2.4.2.0

Can you post a snippet of your data?
