Nuvi (dots over the u)

Ok, how do some of you get the two dots over the u in "Nuvi"?

Ok, RT, I'm game....

If it doesn’t work, I don’t know how.

All you need to do is change the keyboard setup in the control panel from English US to English International and then you can get many different kinds of accents with a single keystroke.

Now for what I've been working up to, something that will benefit everyone on this site. We can do away with looong links to websites and use short ones.

Test #2:
Using html code (along with some ascii code):
1. Create an abbreviated 'clickable' link to garmin.com that only displays Garmin
2. Post the steps required to accomplish this.
AND
3. Using the info in this thread, post what was entered to display this link. Then everyone can post abbreviated clickable-links in the future (copy and paste, you know).

PS. I'll post the answer tomorrow if (slim chance) no one comes up with it.

I thought we got the nüvi thing taken care of yesterday. Did anyone get #3 to this question answered?

You got the answer to question #1. Now there's 2 and 3.
2. Give steps to "get 'er done".
3. The hard part, using the info on this thread, post what has to be entered to accomplish this link(so other members can 'copy and paste'). You can't just post the info that got the link because it will again create the link .. as happened previously.

Here are the answers

Answers to Link Questions:
1. Here is the abbreviated clickable Garmin link.
2. First you have to change the default option when the 'Reply' or 'Quote" page is open. Click on the Input format link above the Preview comment button. Select:
Filtered HTML with Hyperlinks.
3. Copy-and-paste the following where you want the link to be displayed:
Garmin

To create a different link, just replace http://www.garmin.com (leave the quotes) with your link and replace Garmin with whatever text you want.

RT

(Don't know if non-active members can post clickable links.)

--
"Internet: As Yogi Berra would say, "Don't believe 90% of what you read, and verify the other half."

Now for the ones who were

Now for the ones who were trying to display:
Garmin
you realized you couldn't just enter that text in the 'Reply' window as it would only create the link, not display the text. So, (like we did when we were previously working with the special characters in this thread), in order to display the text you replace these characters: < > " with html/ascii code:
Replace < with <
Replace > with >
Replace " with "

And you end up with:
<a href="http://www.garmin.com">Garmin</a>
Copy and paste that into the text body of the 'Reply' window and it will display the text required to create the link.

I'm sure you meant to say..."I hold the option key". There is no alt key on a Mac (the alt key, is used by the Evil Empire).

P.S. Miss POI...can you add a "delete" option, for a person posting a message to the list (that can only be accessed by the poster of "that" original message)?

Do we need an interpreter or translator here? For those of us that don't understand Greek.

In short, to get the dots over the "u" in nüvi, you have enter the ascii equivilent of the "ü". To display the the characters that does that, you have to put in the ascii equiv. of those characters. For instance,

If A+B=C
Then aa+bb=C

In other words, you would have to type in A+B to make a C and to make the A, you would have to type in aa. Does that make any sense, or did I just confuse you more.

For the record, the two dots over the u character is called...

A diaeresis or umlaut and it has a lot to do with how you pronounce the letter. See the wiki definition of same. Wiki link
