Hello All
First Post, Newbie, Nuvi250

When I add new POI's using Loader V 2.4.20, the software congratulates me on loading xxxx poi's succsesfully.

When I look on my Nuvi they are nowhere to be found.

What am I missing here??

Wow, I just had this EXACT

Wow, I just had this EXACT same question! I created a POI and it shows up under Extras, Custom POIs, but why won't it show up if I do a "main search"? It was a Honda dealership that I added. I even tried appending the data to an existing Honda.csv file, but that location wouldn't show up using a search. Weird...

Basically, how do I incorporate custom POIs into the main database?

You can't incorporate your Custom POIs into the main database. There's no way around this.

I downloaded a BUNCH of POI

I downloaded a BUNCH of POI files and they went into the main database just fine. However, for the Honda dealership file I had, my local place wasn't there. I tried appending the information in the EXACT same format as the other entries at the end of the .csv file in Excel. Since all the other dealerships were added (I checked), I cannot figure out why the one I appended wasn't added. It just said the same number of dealers (minus mine) were added.

I then created a stand alone .csv file with the single dealership I wanted. That uploaded, but I couldn't find it doing a "main" search until I read the post above about it going into the custom POI area. Is there a way to "force" it into the main database like all the other POI files I've loaded do? Can't see what the difference is.

I'm not sure what you are seeing, but there is absolutely no way that the Custom POIs that you load to your GPS unit will show up with the built-in POIs. They are found on most GPS units under Extras. If you think that you are seeing them when you search the built in database, you are seeing something else.

Now, when you say you appended the information for the dealer location, what exactly did you do? Did you edit the original CSV and re-load all the Custom POIs that you had previously loaded or just this one? Did you load them to the same location (unit vs SD card) as the previously loading?

The POI files I downloaded

The POI files I downloaded really did go into the main database on my Nuvi 660. I know this because there's local Walmarts, McDonalds, and Quiznos around me that are showing up in a "main" search that weren't there before. Only the Honda one I made myself went into the custom POI area. Weird.

I edited the original .csv file and my addition wasn't included. It loaded the same number of POIs as before I made the change. I then made a single Excel .csv entry and it now shows up under the Custom POI's. Any idea how do delete custom POIs? I already have the dealership saved as a favorite so I don't need it in two unsearchable places. I just wanted to see if I could add it to the general search area like I did with so many restaurants, stores, etc that I KNOW updated in the main database.

Again, after loading all those POIs into my Nuvi, the ONLY one that shows in the custom POI area is the one Honda dealership I added.

Now that I think of it, what the heck is the use of a custom POI area anyway when there's a favorites area? Seems kind of redundant. And Garmin needs to include the favorites in the search. If I find a place that's not in the database and I save it as a favorite it with the correct name, the unit SHOULD find it in it's memory regardless of where it's stored.

Custom POIs are deleted

All the Custom POIs on your GPSr will be deleted when you attempt to load new or additonal POIs to your unit with POI Loader.
When you load new Custom POIs you must also reload all the original Custom POIs you still want onto the GpSr.

Not necessarily. Do a search for saving your old Custom POIs while loading new ones.

Negative, at least on the Nuvi 660. I uploaded MANY POI files and the old ones that went into "main storage" weren't lost.

Again, people, only the one that I manually entered went into the custom POI section...

Here's how

There is a way to load multiple Custom POI files IF your GPS is shown as a drive on your computer.

After you load your POI file, you will find in the \Garmin\Poi folder of your GPS a poi.gpi file. You can rename it to whatever you want (with the .gpi extension) and load another POI file.

EXAMPLE: Load the redlight file and you will see a file called poi.gpi. Rename it to Redlight.gpi. Load the Rest area file and you will again see the poi.gpi file. Rename it to RestArea.gpi. etc, etc.

What he also meant to include is that they will be erased unless you load each one separately and rename then each time you load them so that they don't get overwritten.

We don't know what he 'meant' to include, we only know what he 'did' include. That's why we both clarified it.

Sorry

I was referring to what happens on my C330 when
I load new POIs with POI Loader in manual mode.
I should have been more specific !
