First Long-Trip and Rest Areas

Hello everyone,

I picked up a Garmin 660 a few weeks ago with the 2008 maps already loaded. I guess that makes me a newb. For the most part I'm very pleased. Although I have encountered some side-streets that don't exist and it not recognizing I'm on a ramp deviating from the projected route.

I found this site just before a trip from Chicago to St. Louis.

The nuvi routed us down I-55 (no great shock there). We shot past at least three rest areas that didn't alert from the Rest Areas list. Being the newb, I wasn't sure what information would be needed to get them added to the list (or at least alerting). I have some approximate MM's, but that's about it. If that information would be useful to someone, please let me know!

Thanks!

If they (which many are) are

If they (which many are) are not right (or very close to the road) they won't alert!

Send me info

Send highway, state, MM of ones that didn't work to my e-mail addy. I will double check coordinates/location.
The 20-30 locations I have checked from the combined list in FL have been right on.
Oh well, I'll get true Baptism when I take trip
in Dec. from East Coast FL > Olathe, KS (actually 2 blocks from Garmin factory)> Oklahoma City> Tuscon and > FL via I-10.

Excellent pickup and THANK YOU !
The Rest Areas were missing.

I'll check original IL POI listing to
see where I missed them !
I have added these Rest Areas to the "RestAreasCombined" POI file - will upload
modified file to Ms POI as soon as I find what facilities are at these Rest Areas. RoadNotes
Rest Area site is down this morning and Illinois
rest area info is not detailed enough.

Thank You again Tanga309
If anyone else finds problems let me know !

P.S. Original Illinois State Rest Area has the subject Rest Areas. I have no idea how I missed them ???????????
2nd P.S. Updated RestAreasCombined uploaded to Ms POI. Sorry for missing sites !

Thanks MrKenFL

the updated file is in place now;)

Funny thing about the POI

Funny thing about the POI alerts, I found that my 660 won't give me a notification while plotting a route unless the POI is directly on the route's road. It will notify me of a POI location in my vicinity if I am in the map mode and not plotting an actual route.

Garmin Nuvi 660....Don't leave home without it

.

Yes, for most units, you don't have to be "navigating a route" in order to get an alert.
