Splash Screens

Any jpgs will do so I am not sure an image library is very useful.

Any JPEG scaled to 320x240 is viewable full screen with the Nuvi3XX. I am not sure what the dimensions are for the wide screen like Nuvi 6XX. Also if you don't mind vertical or horizontal bars any size JPG is viewable, but large images do waste memory space.

I found on my nuvi 200 that the splash screen has to be shorter than the screen dimensions, otherwise the GPSr will shrink the image, causing jagged edges.

Yeah, I knew all that, I simply thought that it would be cool to share custom splash screens. For instance, I have one that I made that is a korean sword with the korean flag background, of course, unless you were into korean history, martial arts, or just being korean, you probably wouldn't want it...lol.

I'd like one with the Honda logo. I haven't tried creating one yet, but if someone else has already gone through the trouble ...

A splash screen library is on the list of things to add once we get the programing for the updated database is finished.

A jpeg with my name and secondary e-mail address on it as a "This GPS belongs to...".

While it won't help if stolen, hopefully if I misplace it then some kind soul might contact me to return.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I tried creating a Splash Screen with a logo I downloaded, but couldn't get the size or background right.

Though my non-widescreen nuvi 200 has a display size of 320 x 240, I have found that the Splash Screen image needs to be shorter, 320 x 160.

Full screen images work fine in the slide show, but the Splash Screen image is downsized to make room for the copyright data and USB connection icon at the bottom of the screen.

To prevent the Splash Screen image from being downsized (important for me since mine has contact info text) it can only be about 2/3 of the screen height.

Well, If i find it, I'll mail you my Nuvi350 and keep your 670...lol.

My splash screen is 320x240 and it works fine.

Maybe, but I'll bet the image size has been reduced to fit. Either that, or the 350 does it differently than the 200.

I used the raw dimensions of my 660, 480x272 pixels. No truncation, no noticeable jaggies. I included my cell phone # (purposely altered) just in case an honest person finds it. Here's a link.

How do you load a picture to the splash screen?

Copy the .jpg file into the JPEG folder on your device. Then open the picture viewer and select the check box to show on power up.

A library would be nice but many people might not know how to customize them for their own particular need.

Asianfire, are you saying that a splash screen of 320x240 works fine on a Nuvi 200 (non-wide)?

I made some splash screens for a 350 and they work great. I put them on my 260 and thye scale down for the text on the bottom that pops up. I like how the 350 puts the text over the photo rather than needing its own black bar on the bottom.

I just installed a splash screen on my 255W and it works fine. I also want to put a sticker on the back of the unit reading "Unit is Secured" so it can be read through the wind shield to discourage a would-be-thief. Good idea?

Trust me, thieves could care less about stickers. If they see a GPS in your car they are going to steal it.

My splash screen shows up ok when the unit is not hooked up or hooked to the USB cable. When I hook it to the 12V power cable in the truck it comes on automatically and the splash screen shows too but when I leave it on the power cable and switch it off and on again the splash screen does not show. Is that normal or can that be changed? Any idea?

Doesn't look like you got an answer yet so here goes.

The splash screen will only show on boot-up. That's why you get it when you hook up to the USB cable or move it to your truck. My 755 doesn't really turn off when I hit the power button while it has external power applied, it just turns off the screen back-light. You may have noticed that it comes on with the satellites already acquired when you switch it off and then on again in the truck. That's normal but it's something that Garmin doesn't mention in the manual.

My Splash Screen is a winding road in the hills near the center of Barbados (oddly enough, the one place I drove that I did NOT have maps for).

I have for my splash screen a picture of the great spiral of Andromeda (i.e. M31, the Andromeda Galaxy). Sadly, while I had a route plotted using the Ancient seeding ship Destiny, I had to put myself into suspended animation at the end of season two, and I'm unlikely ever to get out.

It would be neat. It does not appear that anything has been started on this project.

I use my forum avatar as my splash screen. In case you can't make it out, it says:

ATTENTION: THIS GPS IS STOLEN AND BEING
TRACKED! FOR REWARD INFO CONTACT:
(white out of my real email address)

This will not prevent the unit from being stolen, but it gives me some level of comfort that a potential "fence" may be reluctant to buy it. Many people (some on these forums) don't yet know you can't track a GPS without a transmitter.
You can create this screen on MS Paint.
