Seeing Different Versions

In some places for the New Garmin maps, I'm seeing Version 2008, and other places seeing Version 8. Which one is the newest? Garmin's web site showing maps still refers to ver.8.

Ok, then

Garmin is behind on updating their web site for the map you can view in the top right corner. They must be busy bodies in Kansas.

In City Navigator N.A. ver. 2008, then why wouldn't they ©2008? They still show ©2007.

Maybe I could be reading things wrong.

Version can be anything. The practice of using year as a product version was started (unfortunately) by Microsoft for Windows2000. I always thought that must've been done by the marketing/sales folks because it's really a bad idea (Microsoft had to re-version couple of new software to 2008 because they were running behind and couldn't release it this year)

On the other hand, copyright is legal matter and have to be the year when a material/product was first published (or revised) so you can't copyright it in the future...hence 2007.

P.S. You know it is a marketing because when you look at the executables, traditional versioning is still used (Major.Minor.Build.Revision)
