Map Source Update !!!

Hi,

Please somebody educate me about MapSource . Why do I need to update or simply why do I need Mapsource program installed in my computer? Another question, after updating to newer version, do I need to send the map to my Garmin unit? FYI, I have newest v2008 map installed.

Mapsource

For me Mapsource on my PC is a great trip planning tool for creating routes, calculates miles, driving times , storing favorite waypoints and getting coordinates !
Does much more but I'm a slow learner !

Map Source

No, you do not send Map Source to your GPSr. Map Source is good for use with "My Favorites". When you mark a location you wish to save, you can then download it from your unit to Map Source. This will give you the Lat/Lon co-ordinates (unless, of course your GPSr allows you to see those, my doesn't). This way you can then save these to a POI file. Otherwise, you can lose them once you reach the limit of 500 (which may never happen with some folks). Hope this helps...

Mapsource will be little value to you, Windchill, because you have the Nuvi 350. You can manage your waypoints between Mapsource and the Nuvi (and vice versa), but you can't create routes in Mapsource to d/l to the Nuvi. None of the Nuvi series will accept routes (until introduction of the 7XX series). If you have installed the 2008 mapset to your Nuvi, you don't really have a copy of Mapsource on your computer. You have the Garmin map install program. Mapsource is a similar program, but different in that you can do route planning on Mapsource and d/l it to a device that will accept routes.

Value of Mapsource

The value of Mapsource is only as great as how a person uses it. It has more value than creating a route. Do a search on this website for 'Mapsource'.

Thanks, while being frustrated with the v4.9 upgrade, I was browsing the v2008 DVD and somehow Mapsource got installed in my computer. And, I also updated just now.
Now, I am using mapsource just to see the bigger map which is not possible in my Nuvi.
