Signal loss

I've had my Garmin c340 for a couple of weeks and have had A BIG problem with signal loss, about 75% of the time. I did a software update and I even got an outside antenna and it hasn't helped. Do ya'll think I may have a lemon? Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes? I'm from the Seattle area, does that make a difference?

Signal Loss

My 3 month old Nuvi 680 did the same thing......can not acquire a signal.......only for about a minute when you turn it on then it lost the signal......I did not try an external antenna though.......since I had bought the extra warranty from Best Buy I took the unit back and they gave me a brand new one to replace it...........if not for the extra warranty I would have had to send it back to Garmin to get repaired I am thinking...................Dave

Try a hard and soft reset,

Try a hard and soft reset, that seems to help sometimes.

Blank Screen !!

While driving on Central Ave, MD towards east,I decided to make U-turn and take I-495 instead. When I made U-turn, my nuvi350 went blank. Waited for about a minute .... nothing happened. So, I reset the power and it was normal again. It also recalculated route to my destination.

This is Why I buy at Costco.

This is Why I buy at Costco. Something like this happens...even 2 years later...I can return it without buying an extended warranty.

Signal Loss

Are you sure that there isn't an obscuration due to trees, tall buildings or the vehicle body. It doesn't take much for the GPS to loose signal. You might try it in another vehicle to make sure the problem isn't caused by some other electronics in the vehicle.

also be sure of the vehicle

also be sure of the vehicle or services your vehicle has. onstar, and some other services tend to disrupt the signal. also, some newer vehicles have a film covering the windows that don't allow a signal to feed through.

Really???

Hard or soft reset never helped mine.......

Onstar blocking the signal???

Come on now I heard alot of crazy things but a film on the window?? or onstar?? Mine worked just fine for 3 months with the film on the window and onstar and yes even a cell phone and CD player..............till one day the Nuvi just died........Dave

RE: Onstar blocking the signal???

Yes, some window films/tinting applications can block GPS signals if they contain metal particles in them. And it's not impossible that another piece of electronics that is malfunctioning in proximity to a GPSr can be giving off a radio signal that impedes a GPSr from functioning properly. When diagnosing issues, all possibilities need to be considered, including failure of the device in question...

I know that Radar Detectors

I know that Radar Detectors can be affected by any film that is metal. I am sure like others said, that could be an issue.

Any car that advertises that it can reflect heat, can also reflect radio waves. I have only rented one car (can't remember what it was) that had that coating and my RD was almost worthless, I didnt have the GPSr back then.
