Accessing POIs from SD card

I am a new user. I have a Garmin Nuvi 250. I have downloaded some POIs. The files are in sub-folders by category under a main folder named POI. I used the POI Loader program and loaded them onto a SD card in my Nuvi 250. However, I do not know how to access the information. When I go to Points of Interest on the menu, I get all the pre-installed info. What have I done wrong?

I don't know if I can help

I don't know if I can help with the Nuvi 250, but try installing Poi’s directly to the gps.
If that works, see if you can load more then just maps on the sd card for your unit. Some gps units allow you to use the sd cards for maps only.

Reading up on the nuvi 250

Reading up on the nuvi 250 it does mention using the SD Card for images and maps. I guesss I would try with installing it directly to the device first. Then try the card, make sure it clicks in place.

well, the manual is no help

Extremely vague to say the least.

I'm guessing here, and since it can utilize custom poi and SD card, try this;

Where to --> then look for "extras" if it's there press it and perhaps "custom poi" will be there, press that, your custom poi that poi loader loaded should be there.

when you find it, let us know and admin can add the nuvi 250 to the models list of where to find the custom poi.

Accessing POIs from CD card

When I go to >Where To... NO new categories are listed (i.e NO EXTRAS, etc.) I only get the pre-programmed (original) options. However, if I press >Near... > A Different City... and type in a city close to a POI I loaded on my 250 and then return to > Points of Interest and > Spell Name (of POI), I get the information. A rather complicated procedure.

How about Where to? > My Locations > Extras

Found It

Okay ! ! ! I found the EXTRAS. How embarrassing; but, I'll chock it up to being a new-comer to the GPS world (I'm 65.. going on older...). I found the EXTRAS when I went to > Where to? and then scolled down to get to EXTRAS. So Simple !!! And it works fine (and fast, too). Thanks for the tip,although not directly correct, it gave me a good clue...

I store the POI in the internal memory. Then I put everything else on the SD card. It is faster to load that way and it has to load before you can use them. I don't think you can run out either. I've also posted a step by step guide in another thread you can search for if you want good info on how to organize your POI on your computer so it easy to categorize them on the GPS.
