6xx nuvi upgrade to verson 4.10 from 3.80

I just saw thru WebUpdater that a new version software was available, ver 4.10 from ver 3.80. Seemed like a good number of bug fixes, none that seemed especially crucial. Was looking for some feedback on the update before I jumped into it. Anyone who has updated have any issues, problems?

thanks,

.

I thought it odd that on the Update and Download page the date is May 31,2007 probably 3.80 and 4.10 is Sep 06, 2007 apparently that page has not been updated yet.

Many of us don't run Webupdater, anyway

Changes made from version 3.80 to 4.10:

* Add support for Mexican and African time zones.
* Fixed bug where selecting Travel Guide from the Where to? menu would result in No Matches Found.
* Fixed issue where some coordinates would not be properly displayed on the coordinate entry page.
* Updated currency converter exchange rates.
* Fixed bug where having too many custom POI symbols could cause the unit to reboot.
* Added support for Canadian traffic information.
* Fixed bug that occasionally causes map road labels to not match physical street signs.
* Added support for 11 new pre-recorded voices.
* Fixed bug with ejecting from a Mac computer.
* Fixed bug where some audible books would cause the unit to reset.

* Added support for 11 new pre-recorded voices.

Hmmm...I wonder what this is all about...perhaps some famous voices?

Keith, do you think we will be lucky enough...

To now have Paris Hilton's voice announcing locations of Jails throughout the US or perhaps where police officers have a road block set up for DUI investigations?

Food for thought

Here is the full description from Garmin. I installed it in 2 minutes. Seems to work great.

Correct Time At Last

Ummmmmm.. I didn't think they would ever get those African time zones fixed. Now I can know what time it is.

But some famous voices might be a nice feature - but I find I'm quite smitten with Aussie Karen...

The 11 voices/languages are:
African
Arabic
Cantonese
Catalon
Japanese
Korean
Luxenberg
Mandarin Chine
Mandarin Taiwan
Taiwanese

Don't know how I've gotten by without those... smile

4.10 update gave me a scare

I uploaded the update through the Garmin Webupdater for the Mac. All seemed OK until the unit restarted and I realized that all my local streets were missing. Everything else worked OK. Oddly, I noticed that where I used to have about 50 MB of free space showing on the nuvi, it now showed 1GB free. The Garmin folder on the nuvi showed that the map and all other files were there. I decided the missing streets must mean that map data is not being seen by the nuvi.

I reinstalled the 2008 Map and the streets returned. The space available is now back to 50MB.

The firmware update changes the USB behavior on the Mac. The nuvi now shuts down after being ejected from the Mac (the previous behavior was a restart). The other change is that the nuvi now takes much longer to mount on the Mac. Previously it took less than 10 seconds. It now takes closer to 30 seconds before mounting on the desktop.

new update

Update went smoothly I'm very anxious to see if Canadian Traffic information will in fact be present. I'll report on status once I try it
