Importing excel file into nuvi 680

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I am trying to import a excel file into my 680. I have installed POI Loader on my computer and have saved the excel file to a .csv file. However, I keep getting an error message that reads "problem copying data to card. Device not ready"

Thanks again,

Luis

USB There?

Using MS Windows Explorer, are you able to "see" your nuvi/sd card? Does POI Loader find the unit? When does the message occur - is it during the load, or before that phase starts?

If POI Loader finds your unit and the process fails during the load phase, I would venture that there is a problem with your CSV file (which is not an MS Excel file).

Use POI Loader to remove your POI, then run it again to load just one known-to-be-good file (try this one). If that works, it's got to be your file.

If it is, reply with 2 or 3 lines cut & pasted here and someone may see the problem....

Good luck.

Luis,

I noticed the card can be placed on some units incorrectly and still fit into the slot as if it was a perfect fit. Double check that.

Also try installing the csv file directly from a folder rather then using the card? Just to make sure the csv file works right.

Is that a POI Loader message?

That doesn't look like a POI Loader error message - and I can't find it (or any close variations) within POILOADER.EXE.

Are you running POI Loader and selecting the Nüvi (or its card) as the target device? Or are you performing some other operation?

You cannot load an Excel file to a nuvi. Although Excel can open CSV files, it is not a native Excel file (XLS). If the file you are trying to load is an XLS, open it and save it as a Comma Separated Value file. I have saved data files as XLS by mistake, forgetting to select CSV in the file save as menu.

Update: Excel issue Nuvi 680

Thanks to each of you for your advice/comments. I am grateful for your quick responses. I have loaded my excel file into my 680 however, I am still missing files.

FYI, I work in the oil patch in west Texas, and trying to download 5479 service locations into my 680. Your help as always is appreciated.

Thanks again,

Luis

.

What's missing?

Having fought through my

Having fought through my first csv not too long ago, I didn't use excel. If you're more comfortable starting with excel, that's ok, but export it to a text csv file. From there, load it in word pad or text pad. (Or emacs for you UNIX folks out there smile

One thing that happened when I tried doing my first one, was it said it only partially loaded. Finding the culprit entries was a pain. Specifically look for blank lines...
-1.2345,2.34567,"place 1","place 1"

-4.2345,6.78901,"place 2","place 2"
(the extra line in between will hose things up)

or screwed up quotes.

There's also a POI verifier out there, but I was too cheap to pay for it.

5479 service locations

Hey Luis,

I was curious what your locations consisted of? I too work in the oil patch in west texas. Did you create something? Will you be willing to share? Thanks
