Unusual Happenings

I've been told (on another forum) that this feature existed in version 7, but I've never had it happen and I have traveled extensively with my Nuvi 350. Anywho - I updated the Nuvi to 2008 map set, and all of a sudden, "Jack" starts informing me that he has found a better route. This was on a 10 hour trip from Arkansas to Georgia. The first time "Jack" mentioned it was as I crossed into Alabama. Since it's never happened before, I chose to ignore him. Shortly, he said it again, and again, I ignored him. As I was approaching Atlanta, he did it again. This time, I tapped the little symbol that was on the screen, and a dialog box popped up asking me if I wanted to take the new route. I tapped "yes", and was diverted off I-20 to a shortcut over to I-285. That shortcut saved me about 15 minutes. I wish now that I had answered "yes" the first time he (Jack) mentioned it. I've had the Nuvi for over a year, and traveled all over the East Coast, and have never had this happen. Pays to listen, I guess.......

Garmin Routing - some improvements

Although somewhat ambiguous, the article hints at minor routing and major map improvements in NT 2008.

http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2007/07/garmins_new_2008_v9_maps_...

I've noticed better routing

As for map improvements, I've noticed some of those too - but most of my reports to Naveteq about things needing correction have yet to be corrected.

Map Version

Thanks for the link to the review smile

Under "settings (wrench icon)" > "map" > "map info (button)" my Nuvi 660 displays a checkbox next to the words "City Navigator North America NT 2008" followed by "[1] ALL".

I don't see V.9 anywhere. Do I have the latest version?

Also...I wonder why there is a checkbox that enables me to uncheck...I'm wondering what (if anything will happen if I uncheck the box.

Any Ideas?

Thanks very much...

version 9

I am yet to see where the version 9 is displayed on the receiver. However, if you check the Map Product Info on MapSource, besides the CD Set Name "City Navigator North America NT 2008" is the Data Version, which says 9.00
Open MapSource-Help-About MapSource-Product Info.
As for the other issue, I do not know what happens if the box is unchecked. I am guessing it would just revert the unit to basic map, without all the details.

.

There is no version 9 of the City Navigator North American maps.

The current verison IS version 2008.

version 9(?)

The product displayed on MapSource when I open it is "City Navigator North America NT 2008" (Version 9.00). This is from the recent Map Update from Garmin. If there is no version 9, is MapSource playing a trick on me, supplying false information?

Version 9 was called v2008. I believe both are correct, but on your GPSr, you will only see it referred to as v2008
