Software Developer's Kit (SDK)

Does anyone have any knowledge of anyone working with the SDK that is available on Garmin's web site? I have a Nuvi 660 and was wondering if there was a way to develop applications for the device and/or improve existing applications. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I took a look at it

but the SDK is a device interface spec that discusses data transfter protocols and data packet spec. So you can build your own POI loader and so on. It's not an SDK that you can use to build an application to run on your unit.

Accessing the Nuvi Memory

A lot of my disappointment is that the user can't access the Nuvi Memory only the file areas. So the user can't use the PC to erase or edit favorites in the Nuvi memory. If you try to edit the current.gpx file this doesn't work since this is a backup of the memory and gets overwritten by the favorites stored in memory. If the SDK provides a way to access the memory, then an application written to do that would be a goldmine.

No POI Loader Needed

You mean you could build an app that not only allows creation and editing of gpx files, but also loads them when finished?

So not that useful...

I would have liked to have seen an SDK that allows one to actally develop apps for the unit. If what you all are saying is correct, the SDK lets me create my own POILoader. Well that already exists so that's no fun!

Not going there...

I'm not touching that with a 1,000ft pole...
