Updating to 2008 maps on C330

I have updated to the 2008 maps on my c330. As you may know there is not enough memory on the c330 to load all the maps to the unit and you have to pick between Canada and the USA.

I think I saw a posting here about someone talking to Garmin being told that you could get around this issue by using a memory card. I have a 2GB SD card and the unit recognizes it but I can't figure out how to send the maps to the card. Has anyone done this?

You can use MapSource to

You can use MapSource to load the map in the memory of your device. Just select the map, and send to your device. When prompted, send the map to the rewritable storage device, not on the c330 directly.

I'm first time to use GPS, I don't know about that, so you guys have any file can share???

2008 Maps

I received a free update for the 2008 Maps. After I installed the update, I called and asked for a copy of the new Map Source Software. They sent it to me and I received it yesterday. I've been real impressed with Garmin's service.

The Tech told me not to download any of the waypoints that I may have made with the old v8 Map Source on to the new 2008 Maps.

More later,

Ben

I was able to do it with the c530

On the c530, the installation left a new program on my PC called MapInstall. I ran this, and for the location, I changed it from my GPSr to the SD card. I then was able to choose Alaska and each of the individual Canadian provinces to load. It seems to be working for me. If I check on Map Info, I have v2008 listed and checked, and there are two subcateogries listed below which are the 48 states, and the second which lists all of my Canadian and Alaska info on one line.
Did this program load onto your PC? If so, are you able to use it on the c330 as I did?

c330 Map Update to NT2008

I just received an e-mail from Garmin Tech Support as follows in reference to changing between Canada & lower 48 on my c330:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International,

You will need to start each time with the DVD to load the other region and unfortunately the maps can not be loaded to an SD card but only the internal memory.

With Best Regards,"

I hope this clears up all the confusion with reference to the c330. Since it is not a USB device it cannot be accessed as other units can. If anyone knows how to do this, please let us all know and Garmin as well, thanks...

Updating to 2008 maps on C330

Thanks to everyone for all the help and comments.

There does not seem to be a map install program on my PC and I suspect that it is true that the c330 can't save the maps to the SD card.

I don't have Map source yet, but once I do I will try that route and let everyone know if it worked.

Updating the C330

Because the C 330 is not seen as a "mass storage device" it is not going to see the PC the same way. More importantly, it can not be "fully" updated because the memory is too small.

You will not be able to get the entire mapping on the system, and no free updates are being allowed for the C330.

That said, you can load the lower 48 and get a pre-programed card for the rest of North America.

The C330 is a work horse, adn a great little unit.

only 90 days

lsmonop, you definitely get points in my book for perseverance.

Points

Hey Moma you get points in my book for being able to spell perseverance. All kidding aside I loaded the new maps into my GPS 7200 Yesterday using Map Install. It seemed to go smoothly. It didn,t ask me if I wanted to load the lower48 states, or Canada or anything else. I assumed that I had enough memory on the unit to handle them all. My question is there anyway to check exactly what it did load.I know it loaded the 48 states because I just got back from North Carolina and all the new roads showed up.
Thanks for any input

Scooter, that's too funny! Anyway, you should be able to see what maps you have loaded by going to your Settings (Wrench), clicking on Map, and then clicking on Map Info. My guess is that the 7200 has plenty of space to load the whole version. It should say City Navigator NT 2008. (I think I remember that you have the NT version.)

Right on again

Thanks MM Your right It loaded them all, and I did have the NT version. My wife and I took another drive down to North Carolina. We bought a couple of acres of property in Isle of Wight county and were looking at modular houses in and around NC.We drove to rocky Mount NC because they have a lot of modular dealerships there, anyway the trip takes about three hours with a lot of new highways and roads. I used to have to print out Mapquest directions or Google directions but today the GPS found all the new highways and streets. I was really impressed. Thanks again for all your HELP!
