Android 14/15 Samsung S23 Ultra issue

 

I've been using a Zumo XT for the last couple of years without any real issues except since I upgraded my phone last year to a Samsung S23 Ultra. Since then, when using the unit and playing music, after a few minutes, if I get any poi warnings or new direction instructions, the music starts stuttering, getting worse and worse until the music finally stops altogether until I restart the Zumo.

I've tried multiple different headsets, no difference, factory reset the Zumo, tried all sorts of settings and spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Garmin Support. The only thing that fixes the issue is to use an Android 11 or 12 phone or an Iphone. The S23 Ultra with Android 14 or 15 seems to be the one constant with the music issues. I've tried connecting the phone to the Zumo and Zumo to headset and turning off other connections, turning off wifi, etc. but nothing seems to work except changing to an older phone.

Garmins solution is to pay for an out of warranty replacement but even they agreed this was most likely not going to resolve the issue.

Is anyone else using an Android 14 or Android 15 phone that can verify music works from mp3's stored on an Micro SD card in the Zumo, consistently?

I've gotten used to my Zumo XT but I'd be tempted to upgrade to an XT2 or a different phone if it will resolve the issue but I'd like to be sure before putting down that amount of money or a chance of it working.

Well, I managed to borrow a Moto Razr running android 14 and it works perfectly with the Zumo XT. Seems there is an issue with the S23 (not sure if its specific to the Ultra).

Looks like I'm shopping for a new phone, possibly a Pixel 9 though for now I'm working with an Android Auto screen and trying out different GPS apps, but nothing quite compares to having my Zumo cool
