How Long Does It Take For Trails/Multi Use Paths To Show Up On Google Maps Or Other Online Maps?

We have had some paved trails/multi use paths built near me this fall.

Does anybody happen to know how long it takes for them to show up on Google Maps, Open Street Maps or other places?

Map Corrections

I don't know if there is a set timeframe for map additions or corrections. You may be able to speed the process a bit by reporting the new trail / road / path to the people who maintain the database.

The HERE database, used by many of these mapping software programs, has a place on their website to report these issues.

https://mapfeedback.here.com/#/report

I've used it several times but it can take years for the fixes to show up.

In most cases, Google Maps relies on their satellite imagery to make corrections. The time between images varies from months to years depending on the specific area. I'm sure there is a backlog of correction data as well.

Open Street Maps also has a web page for reporting errors & additions:

https://www.openstreetmap.org/fixthemap

Again, I have no idea how long it takes for these corrections to show up.

Google maps user corrections

For Google maps, there is a path to report errors and request corrections and additions.

With maps.google.com open on a PC:
1. click the 3-bar menu at top left
2. click "edit the map"

One of the options there is "add or fix a road".

Only time will tell…

I had to laugh at this because I’m reminded of an incident when I purchased my first home (very rural) in 1973. It was new but the phone service was only rotary dial. I inquired of the phone company when we would get “touch tone” dialing and the reply was “not in your lifetime”. When I replied you don’t know how old I am, again the reply was “not in your lifetime”. Well the Bell Atlantic person was wrong, we got touch tone dialing some 10 years later.

How Long Does It Take For Trails/Multi Use Paths To Show Up On

I grew up on a dairy farm with a rotary dial telephone on a party line. After college and moving to the Twin Cities area I had a so-called private line and I think I cost a $1 or so more per month for Touch Tone. I am something of a tight wad and bought a phone that did legacy dialing, but I slid a slide switch to use the DTMF pad for on-line banking.
