How to Import Icons (BaseCamp)

I see with the various lists for businesses, and icon file is included. How do I add this to my BaseCamp?

TIA

I'm able to transfer the

I'm able to transfer the icon (sing the 24 version) from here to my laptop, but nothing seems visible in Basecamp or my Montana 700. In fact the Montana doesn't even show any custom icon section where you select icons for your waypoints.

No Problem for Me

Follow the instructions that sbbjm has listed in the link that I provided.

Click on "Icons" at the top of the page in the right corner and find an icon that you might like. Remember that it MUST be one of the 24 bit icons. Find the MyGarmin/Custom Waypoint Symbols and save the file in this subdirectory. As sbbjm indicated, you MUST sabe it as a 24 bit bmp file, named between 000.bmp and 062.bmp.
Make a waypoint and then open the waypoint properties. Click on the Icon button at the top and scroll all the way down to Custom. It should be in there.
I just added the Lighthouse Icon and had no problems installing that icon on a lighthouse that I will be visiting in Newfoundland next week.

'Click on the Icon button at the top and scroll all the way down to Custom. It should be in there.'

I know on my GPSmap64 that is how you scroll down thru the icon. With the Montana 700 the is no 'Custom' icon section, just the usual default icons 'sections'

Different Naming Format

There is a totally different naming format for the GPS and Basecamp.

When you want to use a custom icon in a POI. In the GPS you associate the Icon to a specific POI file. For example, I have a POI file named "Rest Areas US.gpx". I have a specific icon for this POI File and it's named identically to the POI file. It's named "Rest Area US.bmp". You can use either 24 bit or 48 bit bmps depending on your GPS model.

Icons imported to Basecamp must be 24 bit and they do not export to the GPS. They're also named with a number between 001 and 062.

Hope this helps.

OK, I was a bit frustrated

OK, I was a bit frustrated and it was getting late in the day. Anyways I was loading the POI file to the wrong Custom Waypoints folder. Once I figured out to put it in the folder associated with the Montana, the icon appeared in the 'Custom Waypoints' page (visible when editing the waypoint).

Why can't things be easier?

Thank you.

I found it a worthwhile exercise, since I didn't know you could import icons into Basecamp. Now I do and added lighthouse icons, to include on a map of my upcoming tour of Newfoundland, in 3 days. I'm going on a bus tour, but wanted to be able to put a map together, to give me a perspective.

I found it easy with Paint

I found it easy with Paint to rework logos online (crop them and then resize to 24x24) on my own.

Anyone know why of the 30 I created only 28 transferred to my GPSDr?
