Had 7.17.1.0 (not prompted) but direct download worked
I already had 7.17.1.0 (Windows 10) and it did not prompt me that an update was available. I did a direct download from the Garmin website and installed it and it did accomplish the update to 7.17.1.1.
Rather surprisingly the option "Always keep Garmin Express running in the background" was not enabled like it has been in the past.
Don't forget to clean out remnants of old versions of GE once you feel comfortable with your installation. On my Windows 10 machine, they are located at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Application and each is about 127 MB in size.
Belay that, I did not get 7.17.1.1 (unless Garmin yanked it)

I could have sworn I got 7.17.1.1 as a direct download but it now appears it was 7.17.1.0. That likely also explains why the option to keep GE running in the background was unchecked as that my normal.

I normally wait until a map
I normally wait until a map update is out to update GE, GE forces you to update at that point anyway prior to the new map update if there is one.
