Montana 700 (and POI sub-folders)

As far as I know it's the same as on your Zumo, have you tried that?

Sure have. I build a file called POI's, then inside that folder I have files that have categories of poi, when I try and load with poi loader, the sub folders are not there.

If it works on your Zumo try copying the .gpi file from there to your Montana

You already made a folder called POI's on the computer.

Inside the POI's folder, make a subfolder named for each category. There is a limit of 32 such folders inside the top folder, POI's. An additional level of subfolders below that is not supported.

Inside each subfolder there is a limit of 32 POI files.

When running POI Loader, browse to the POI's folder, not the subfolders inside. You cannot see the files in the browse window. POI Loader will find and load all the subfolders and files.

The name of each subfolder will become a category inside the GPS menu.
(for auto GPSs, Where to?/Extras/Custom POIs)
Different GPSs have different menus but all units have categories.

If a POI is loaded to a Montana 700i, then it is a waypoint.

I'm not sure this will work with your Montana 700i but it does with my older Montana 650t.

First, I open all the POI files in Basecamp. I then double click on each POI and set a category for each one using the menu bar. The resulting file is then downloaded to the Montana.

It can be a time consuming process though if you have a long list of POI's.

It is also necessary to convert .csv files into .gpx or .gdb format before loading into Basecamp.

It's a cumbersome process to be sure but could be used as a last resort.

Thanks sussamb, why didn't I think of that. .gpi file did the trick.

Now if I can remember how to to put a custom icon/ poi symbol on the main menu like I did on my Zumo.
