I am curious about the City Navigator products on SD.
Since my nuvi 200 can only hold the 48 States section of the North America 2008 DVD I am wondering if I can put the Canada IMG file on an SD card and use it on my nuvi.
I am wondering if this would work similarly to when you insert a City Navigator SD card in a nuvi.

Hey,
I ran into the same problem as you with my C330, but I think I found somewhat a solution, you run the mapinstall and it gives you a map with a meter on the right, I was able to select all of Canada and pretty much all of the US minus 3 states I just picked some that I know I will never visit. Then upload those maps.
It takes a little over a hour to install these bad boys, but I think it'll work out pretty good.
Good Luck.
Mine only had 3 options
All
Canada and border states
US 48
I'd like to put the Canada file on an SD to see if I can access it from there, but don't know the directory structure or file name the nuvi will look for.

I'm not sure if you can do that or not.
In order for it to work, the unit would look for a file named gmapsupp.img which indicates supplemental maps.
The other IMG (map) files in case you are wondering are ... (don't delete or alter these)
gmapbmap.img = base map
gmapprom.img = detailed pre loaded maps
My guess is that it wouldn't work, but it might if you could select those map tiles in MapSource and send them to the SD card where they would end up being a supplemental map. I don't think you can do it from the regular update process.
I had only those options as
I had only those options as well when I first installed the DVD, but afterwards, when I clicked on the desktop icon, it gives you options on what regions you want to install and you can select specific regions.

The normal update process didn't work for me. I had to manually copy the gmappromL.img file to my nuvi and rename it gmapprom.img. If I copy the Canada img to my SD card and rename it gmapsupp.img, that might work.

No dice
Garmin told me today that I could not put the Canada map section on the SD card !
MrKenFL- "Money can't buy you happiness .. But it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." NUVI 260, Nuvi 1490LMT & Nuvi 2595LMT all with 2014.4 maps !
I am sooooo Happy!
Well,
Thanks to jmar254 I installed MapSource from my Map Update 2008 DVD. It actually came with the latest version.
I can now transfer the AK, HI, PR, and Canada maps to my SD card and have all of North America on my nuvi 200. It works great.
MapSource (and MapInstall) create a file named gmapsupp on the SD card. I am wondering if I can rename that file so I can have several map supplements on the SD card similarly to when people rename poi.gpi to enable POI Loader to upload more than one POI file.

No, all the supplemental maps that you load, be they street maps for another area, topo maps or whatever, must all be in the same gmapsupp.img file.
Thought so

I guess I'll create one big supp file with all of Canada and AK, HI, and PR, so I have all of the 2008 North America NT map loaded.
Now there is no need for me to delete the non-contiguous US data points from POI files.

US Virgin Islands
Interestingly,
I couldn't move the USVI map to my SD card using MapSource. I looked into it further and discovered that the USVI are included in the 2008 North America NT 48 States image file.
