Garmin RV 1090 Lane Assist Issue

Lane assist with junction view (displays junction signs) DOES NOT WORK 99% of the time. I Upgraded ha) from a 760, the LA worked 99% of the time even with small junctions.

I'm in Canadian city (Winnipeg 650,000 with many turnouts on the perimeter Hwy) - the 760 / 770 showed the graphic - sorta photo realistic of the Hwy sign and purple line on witch lane to bein - it showed up within a mile or (1.6 km of the actual turnout). GREAT loved it, went to the easy coast and back and it worked and helped a lot. (2017).

Now this year got the RV 1090 great I can see it with my old eyes and it SHOULD have the LA still... (its shown on the freaking BOX). 1st issue is the size instead of 1/2 of the screen its 1/6 of the screen - REALLY.

But more important IT NO LONGER WORKS Traveled 6000 miles across Canada (again) were the previous 760 /770 showed excellent views of the LA the 1090 does not show up AT ALL..... maybe be once in 6000 miles. The turn outs on the Wpg perimeter that worked before - no longer works.. I have tried voice and CHAT help ..... no help, I was advised to return it and get a new one to see if it helped (Costco) NOPE ... no change. HELP, do I need to go back to the 795 (now)??

If it aint broken, don't fix

If it aint broken, don't fix it?

Can you clarify?

OK, you had a device that did not show lane view and you were advised to return it and the wording seems to indicate you did that. Are you saying the replacement unit is also not showing lane view?

My point was if the old gps met his needs, don't replace it, keep using it.

I updated my car's nav fw back in june. They fixed most of the bugs introduce in the previous update (or 2) and the system overall works relatively well (except for a few caveats not directly fw related). When the oct/nov update comes out, unless it introduces some new features (like wireless AA), I will NOT be updating.

Different subset of interchanges

I've had a couple of Garmin GPS units which did some form or another of interchange display. In that time, the question of which particular intersections would get which form of display seemed somewhat whimsical, and definitely changed with map updates and with model (3790 not the same as 3597)

I imagine that your unit which advertises itself to do LA probably really does--somewhere else than where you are using it. And I imagine that question is tied to the map. It is not likely to be an individual defect of your GPSr, though just possibly it might be a configuration error.

The great thing would be if other forum participants using your particular model of GPS would report here what kind of interchange visualization they see and where, and how it compares in that respect to other models to which they have access or memory.

I do sympathize. It is always a great pity to move backward.

Small JCV File?

Garmin has three navigational aids to help the driver choose the correct lane for his/her route. The three navigational aids are: 1) Lane Assist, 2) Junction View, and 3) Active Lane Guidance. References on the Garmin web site to these three navigational aids are:
"Lane Assist on Automotive Devices": (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=UeHyBH53sQ9riQy68jsj89)
"Junction View": (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Umn3OMB08f3iXuuEyML7o6)
"Active Lane Guidance": (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=4Fxmjh3cKa0YEqV8DfGti6)
From the RV1090 Manual "Active Lane Guidance": (https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-9FC76615-A91B-4...) displays a screen with "Lane Assist" in the upper left corner and "photoReal Junction View" in the upper right of the screen adding to the confusing nomenclature. It's unclear to me if the RV1090 supports the same "Active Lane Guidance" as found on other Garmin receivers (like the nüvi 3597) or just Lane Assist with Junction View. Do you see displays similar to the "Active Lane Guidance" reference above?
From the Garmin web site "The Lane Assist and Active Lane Guidance features are integrated into the map file and will display on compatible devices." Reference: "Lane Assist, Junction View, and 3D Building View Content in City Navigator NT Supplemental Maps/Downloadable Content": (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=8L63bObSSQ7oJBNagT9nr8). Junction View data is stored in a separate file. Over the years, the size of the .jcv has shrunk substantially for some devices. Plenty of posts on poi-factory discussing the different .jcv files sizes and formats for the different models. As an example the installed nüvi 855 .jcv file is ~26.6MB, rather than the 869MB "Large" .jcv file installed on other models. Is there a possibility that your RV1090 has a small .jcv file rather than a "Large" .jcv file?

Same With the RV 890

I have the same issue with my RV 890 here in the US. I can't say LV fails to display 99% of the time but it is very infrequent. I just assumed it was the unit's design.

I always run with two GPS units booted anyway so I use my Nuvi 3597 or Driveluxe 51 for JV.

Not an ideal solution but it works for me.

Garmin's mood.

I also face the same problem. It depends on Garmin's mood. On the same route (I-80) sometimes it shows the junction view, but sometimes it doesn't.
