I love this Garmin

Thanks to you guys and your enormous patience with a newb (heh heh) I am getting a lot of use out of my Garmin Nuvi. Coupled with the improved COVID-19 numbers, I am getting to places!

I went to a meeting that took place in a church I had never been to before. My Nuvi took me there without a single issue.

I went to a training in a building that I have gone to some years back. I noticed when the Garmin was routing me, it showed me a screenshot of the exit sign that was approaching. I was not expecting this. Neat feature.

It is also great because the screen is bigger than my smartphone screen and it is mounted on my windshield instead of the AC vent where my phone used to be.

Happy camper over here.

New toy

Glad you got the GPS working. Enjoy the new toy lol. Install both the Speed and Redlight camera files onto it using POI Loader and it will even be better.

me too

Welcome
I love my nuvi over smartphone for navigation.

Amen

Amen to that - much better than my toyota nav system also.

Permanently mounted on my dash.

I find it's nice to see the map and which streets are ahead even if you do not have a route. A reminder "ding" for speed zone changes or a school might.. save you getting a ticket as well.

I love my Garmin too! Been

I love my Garmin too! Been using Garmins for decades. The only thing better is the mapping software in our volunteer fire department's trucks which uses GIS and also works with data streams to note hydrant locations, power boxes, door codes, etc but those cost something like $10k per year!

I tried Waze (in addition to Google Maps) for navigation. Yes it worked OK but I found Waze to be overly chatty to the point of annoying. Garmin seems to have a better balance of visual and voice alerts IMO.

I've actually moved on with smartphone but wife still is loyal to Garmin. Only thing missing is the live fast accurate data that smartphones have it beaten. Other than that, I'd stick with Garmin myself.

Have used smartphone in

Have used smartphone in conjunction with Garmin at times but overall Garmin is more efficient with mapping than smartphones: phone is not as accurate in poor signal areas, and you never know when poor signal areas will occur. Therefore the smartphone gets regulated to ‘places to visit’ support use, and usually we follow phone directions to the ‘local spot’, letting Garmin route is back toward our destination, as opposed to adding a ‘via’.. Using the Best of both worlds.
Overall, as long as Garmin is updated with current maps, Garmin has been more reliable in our travels.

We each have our own 2689 LMT with SD Card, and our old as hills 660 still gets updated with a partial map on SD Card and all 3 have our favorite POI’s.
Quite happy with Garmin.

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!
