Should Transport Departments Lie For Safety?

The context for this article is that here in CO Interstate 70 has been closed for weeks due to a mudslide which is a consequence of a wildfire last year. It re-opened today with one lane in each direction and it is anticipated that it won’t be fully open ‘til ski season. I am under the impression that the open lanes have a lot of hard caked mud and the speed limit is 35 MPH. With our low population density we have few alternate roads and often they are dirt roads. The road CO-82 over Independance Pass is so frightening that my wife won’t go there in the eastbound direction. A large interstate bus avoiding I-70 was on a dirt road near Gunnisson a few days ago when it holed it’s oil pan.
