Basecamp - IDP.GENERIC virus warning

Hello everyone,

I downloaded the latest version of Basecamp from Garmin website. I use Avast antivirus and scanned the executable and it didn't find any issue. During installalation of basecamp, Avast pop up a warning message about Basecamp.exe has the IDP.GENERIC virus. Has anyone seen this message when installing Basecamp? I'm wondering if this a false postive. For now i have moved that basecamp.exe to quarantine.

Note that down near the bottom, it says to make sure your AV signatures are up date.

Thank you. Yes, I update both the application and the virus definition itself, but it still detect Basecamp.exe as IDP.Generic virus.

Strange thing is that after I downloaded the installation executable and scan the installation executable iself, Avast found no malware. It only detects the IPD.Generic during the installation. Also strange is that after Avast moved it to quarantine, I choose to restore basecamp.exe and manually scan basecamp.exe and Avast found no malware. It only shows the virus during installation. I have reported this to Avast for them to take a look at it.

In the meantime, if you downloaded it from Garmin, you can be reasonably sure the file is clean. Disable AVAST while installing.

Avast

Is not the only Anti-virus giving "False Positives" for legitimate programs.

My suggestion is to ignore that "Warning" !!!!

Antivirus

I live by these rules:

Rule Number 1: Never ever disable an antivirus program!

Rule Number 2: If an antivirus program triggers false positives, get a better antivirus program.

Avast support contacted me

Avast support contacted me and they fixed this issue by updating their virus reputation database. I'm now able to installed Basecamp latest version without any errors.
