Garmin uploader wont recognize my OTR700

I have a new Garmin 700 OTR. I downloaded the Garmin uploader and transferred a POI file to that program. It took me 3 or 4 tries to get the program to recognize my GPS. It tried to transfer the file but I got a message saying the file could not be transferred. What am I doing wrong. When I plug the GPS into my dektop (windows7) it wants to open Garmin Express. But it would transfer the file. At first it gives me the option of not opening Garmin Express. Very confusing.

Uploadewr ???

Are you referring to the Garmin POI loader v.2.73 as "Uploader" ?

In Garmin Express there is no option to disable that when you plug a Garmin GPS into your computer. It is there but it is grayed out so it cannt be unchecked.

More info

Moisheh, can you give us some more info?

Has your new GPS been fully charged to confirm the battery is ready?

Have you checked your Windows 7 PC for updates?

Are you using a Garmin USB cable? Have you tried other cables or USB ports on the computer? Are you using a computer's USB port or a hub? Has your earlier GPS device succeeded in installing custom POIs or Garmin updates? Your "3 or 4 tries" suggests an intermittent signal due to the USB cable or PC/GPS port.

I'm not clear as to whether you used Garmin's POI Loader program to load custom POIs and if it eventually succeeded or failed. If it failed, is it with some custom POIs that worked on your earlier GPS device? What did the error message say? Ditto for Garmin Express, did it see the dezl OTR700 or not? If it did, would it check for and do any updates? (If you open Garmin Express without the device connected, click the settings, then uncheck both of the General Settings which should prevent your Garmin Express issues from occurring.)

Good luck.

Uncheck ???

Craig if you see my posting above yours, in my GE I can uncheck the always have GE running in the background. But the other is GRAYED out and cannot be accessed.

Is it ONLY in my GE setup???

The second, lower box only applies if the upper box is checked. If the upper box is checked, then the lower can be checked or unchecked.

It makes senses since GE can't know when to auto-launch unless GE is running in background.
