There's no joy in Mudville tonight

I just updated to 7.1.1 and connected my Garmin fleet 670 which was one of the several models of Garmin devices not being seen by the previous Garmin Express 7.1.0. It is still not recognized. It'll be interesting if someone with a dezl 770, RV 660, Monterra, nuvicam, etc. that shared the problem with GE not seeing their devices can see if GE7.1.1 fixed things for them.

One person has posted a fix that may work with the nuvicam which was to switch the nuvicam from MTP mode to MS mode. At least for my fleet 670, it appears that there's no way to switch out of MTP mode.

The Garmin Forums still only has Release Notes for GE 7.0.1 so it's about three versions out of date.

[Later]Garmin has responded in the Garmin Forums stating the GE7.1.1 has fixed the issue but it's not true for my device. sad

restart the computer

Just unplug the 670 and restart the computer. It may have to do with a Garmin device driver for the USB port for the Fleet 670. When the Fleet is plugged in again, a Garmin driver will be installed for it.

Thanks

Thanks for the information-just updated-no problems.

Well, to be sure, I tried that again and still no luck.

As I've described in the recent posts discussing the problems with GE7.1.0 on a select few Garmin devices, the differences with the fleet 670 compared to "normal" Garmin devices are:

-in addition to Garmin software to run the navigation, etc., the fleet also has Android folders and files.

-like most recent Garmin devices, the fleet 670 comes as a MTP device. What's odd about the fleet 670 as far as I can tell is that none of the very many hidden menus offer a switch to MS mode. On the other hand, it has a readily accessible setting via the normal menus showing it to be a MTP device but again with no way to change it.

-I doubt it's a driver issue since my Windows PC readily detects it as a drive and shows me all its folders and files. Also, Garmin's POI Loader program detects the fleet 670 and successfully installs customs POIs.

-Prior to the recent Garmin Express 7.1.0 (and now 7.1.1 which supposedly fixed the problem but doesn't), all older versions of Garmin Express found the GPS and were able to update maps and software. Even now, I can uninstall GE7.1.x and go back to an earlier GE version (7.0.2 worked for me) and the GPS is detected and can update the device.

We don't have the data yet but I expect (and hope) that 7.1.1 did fix the problem with not detecting some devices which hopefully includes the Monterra, dezl 770, RV 660, nuvicam and possibly others but that for some reason the fleet 670 remains undetected by the revised GE7.1.1.

As it stands, as long as older versions of Garmin Express still detect the fleet 670, I can jump through all the extra hoops to do software and map updates. There is also the possible option of using the clone technique to update my fleet 670 to an SD card but I find that installing an older version of GE when needed is a faster solution.

I do hope that there are several commercial trucking firms still using the fleet 670 and if/when they complain to Garmin about the failure to update, they'll have the clout to get Garmin to offer yet another version of GE.

Thanks for trying, though, dobs108!

Just downloaded on my Windows 10 laptop

Seemed to install just fine.

I recieved an answer from Garmin about my 770 update problems, they told me the following,
Thank you for your reply and the info, I apoo. We recently released Garmin Express version 7.1.1.0 that resolves this issue. Please update Garmin Express using the steps in FAQ Updating the Garmin Express Application.

But not sure if this will work going to keep the old version 6.29.0 it works at least
