Recent problems ...
Based on recent problems experienced by Garmin, I'm remaining cautious.
Fortunately, I do not have an urgent need for the update so I think I'll wait a bit to see if there are any "hidden" files that get downloaded as well.

One of the fastest map
One of the fastest map updates I have done. Still no need for SD card on Nuvi 2597.

I'm kind a belt and suspenders type and will wait for a bit also
Don't check too early for updates
I last checked for updates yesterday around 12:30 - 1:00PM EDT and nothing showed.
I'm downloading now.
Updated
It took 3 and a half hours to update my 350, 3590, and 3597. I haven't been able to get out and try them yet, but it seems that the downloads went alright, with the exception that the 3597 locked up and I had to restart the download. The second download went OK. I've only had this happen one other time, 4 or 5 updates ago. Same thing happened: it started, it froze and then continued like nothing ever happened when I re-started it.

I installed garmin express
I installed garmin express into a fresh win10 VM. Total download was around 12.5 GB.
It would appear it downloads data for all its gps units. I carefully monitored network activity when updating 3 different devices (driveluxe 50, DS 61 and 65). First device to update was the DS65. I suppose this makes good sense. Why waste bandwidth/resources for duplicate data.
Maybe the download would be small if I did an older unit first¿?
Anyways, looking at back, the last update was 6/2018. Not much changes around here (chicago). Few counties out, some new roundabouts were installed last year. Surprisingly the map update has those.
excellent
downloading now

I hope the 12.5GB was for the Garmin Express installation software AND a map update.

No, that's just the map
No, that's just the map update files. I didn't measure how much space garmin express was consuming.

So all this crap gets installed in a vm, converted to the old format, then copied over to the host and laptop. Yes... I really do hate basecamp that much.

Should I wait or update it now!
Hi,
Good morning. I just updated my old one nuvi 2555 LMT but haven't updated the DS55 yet. Should I wait for a few days to see the other user feedback as a few days back Garmin was attacked by the Ransom virus.

There are about a dozen people here who have done the update without issues and we are not the only people in the world with Garmins. I would do it now. Just allow yourself some time as it might take in excess of an hour depending on your internet speed. If you do it connected to a laptop, make sure the laptop is powered on AC during the process, not the battery.

See the thread at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/46165.

Do you have any experiences that Garmin installing different size of map into different devices? I do have 3 and all of them are not the same size from 3 Gb to 3.2 Gz while Garmin states the size is around 7.8 Gb? Thanks

Not much different
I don't see any changes. Still misses many "streets ahead" by skipping several and showing a street off in the distance. No new school zones, Garmin added a bunch several years ago and has never finished the job.
Edmonton AB has included most parks in its restricted speed areas so I can see the problem of getting data got a lot more complicated.
Lives in Edmonton AB A volunteer driver for Drive Happiness.ca and now (since June 20 2021) uses a DS65 to find his clients.
Pretty slow connection at Garmin Servers
Garmin must have a pretty slow server or there are too many sharing it at one time. The best speed I could get while downloading was 7.8 Mbps while my connection typically is capable of 70 Mbps.
Don't know how long it took as I walked away shortly after being told at the start it would take 3 hours.. in fact it was done when I checked ~45 min later.

I'm not sure what the final
I'm not sure what the final map sizes are. I cannot see the system on my DS55 with my Mac. But watching the downloads, 3597 and DS55, both reported downloading 7.8 GB.

The 7.8 GB size includes files other than the .img map file. It includes the downloaded Junction View file (.jcv) and for the newer devices, additional very large files (probably .asr, .sid., etc.) for other features offered by the GPS device.
Not sure
what the problem is but the installer hanged at 75% when installing the maps to the PC. No problem updating a 2598 though.
Now when rerunning the install to computer option in GE the program throws a garmin elevated installer hss stopped error and GE stops at step 2 of 2 downloading maps at 50%.

Do a direct to Garmin device install

Instead of installing to the PC, do a direct install to the Garmin device. I have found that to be reliable with older devices like a nuvi 265.

Problem w/ Delay Reporting
I’ve noticed this problem about the same time that I installed 2021.20. The internal code to the DriveSmart to the best of my knowledge did not change.
Symptoms: If there is a reported delay when driving with the Smartphone app connected to my DriveSmart 51LMT-S and not navigating I get the tab on the right of the screen reporting the delay. If I close the tab it returns in (I guess) 20 to 40 seconds. Again and again. The data reported is the same but I can’t eliminate it. If this is a bug it is a persistent bugger.
This happened on both of my drives since the update. I can’t eliminate the possibility of user error but my imagination isn’t up to answering what I may have done.
Successfully Updated My 2595
Will have to take it for a test drive tomorrow...
