Garmin seems to be having some issues (recovering from ransomware)

Tried to go into Garmin Express a moment ago and it says there is a problem connecting to their servers. So I googled to see if there is any news about it. Apparently they were hit with a ransomware attack today. Anyone else see anything about it? Looks like they have been hit hard.

Garmin Nüvi 660 & 3490LMT with ecoRoute HD, Nüvi 855 gone to GPS heaven

Well, ...

... there goes today's map update razz

Stay clear

Probably best to avoid any updates of any of their stuff, until this is resolved and they give the all clear.

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

Checking GE for updates didn't work

I had checked GE for possible updates about 7 this AM (Eastern) and it wasn't responsive. Not even the typical "You are up to date."

$10 million ransom

Supposedly Garmin being asked to cough up $10 million ransom. See https://www.forbes.com/sites/barrycollins/2020/07/25/will-ga...

I’m inclined to stay away from any Garmin site until such time as I see via other sites or online content that Garmin has corrected their issues.

thank goodness for our garmins

Thank goodness that our Garmins are standalone devices that do not depend on the Garmin server to navigate. If it were Google and we were running Google Maps or Waze, we might be dead in the water.

That could be a good 'new' selling point for Garmin to beef up it's stand alone GPS sales, taking back some folks from the Google & Waze craze, because lately they seem to be drifting away from 'our' market.
