Driveluxe 51 Issues

A few of us here bought refurbished Driveluxe 51 GPSr's recently thanks to a tip and link from Alandb. I'm curious if anyone who bought a 51 at any time, either new or refurb, has experienced these issues.

1 - The orange banner across the top of the screen which displays warning messages like "Curve Ahead 500' " freezes and won't update.

2 - The split screen junction view also freezes.

In both cases, the unit continues to operate but these conditions won't clear until the unit is either rebooted or route navigation is stopped.

I have 2 Driveluxe 51's, both refurbs, and these issues occur sporadically on both.

If these issues are a design flaw in the firmware, it could be a contributing factor in Garmin's decision to pull the unit from production so quickly.

Please note these problems are a relatively minor annoyance and occur once in every 4 or 5 trips. Overall, I still like the unit and continue to use it on a regular basis.

Is device up to date?

You don’t mention it, but is the device 100% up to date? I know when I bought a refurb 2689, which appeared to be new, the installed map was 3 years old, and likely the firmware was as well.

try a hard reset?

Have you already tried a hard reset?

Also, with my DriveLuxe 50, sometimes it takes several tries running GE to get the GPS to reboot and actually install the firmware.

The same thing with the map update. Even though GE displayed that the map update was finished, on immediately reinstalling the map update, it continued on for some time to finish installing the map.

This happened on the last map update I did, which may have been two maps ago, and I did a hard reset after that.

It could be that the DriveLuxe 50 is a different animal than the 51.

Driveluxe 51 Issues

I had a different issue with mine recently. I would encourage you to get in touch with Garmin. They took great care of me.

Yes

A hard reset is always job one for problems like this.

Both of my 51's arrived with the latest firmware. G.E. had no newer version available.

DriveLuxe 51

I have not had any of these issues so far. But ... with the pandemic, I am not driving much. I have only had to fill the tank once since February for the vehicle (family sedan) that I use the DriveLuxe in. It needs gas again, but that means it has only gone about 800 miles in 5 months! At this rate, that car is going to outlive me for sure (even if I don't get COVID)!
