are u allowed to right turn when light is red?

I've heard mixed things. Are you allowed to make a right turn on the right most lane when the light is red? I know you can't do it for some corners that say: 'no turn on red'. what about the corners that don't say anything? do you need to wait for green? or just inch up past the white crosswalk lines, and then turn?

RIght turns on red

Should be permitted unless posted otherwise...so you stop at the light, then proceed with a turn on red if it's safe to do so unless it's posted not to.

I agree with kch20428

Play it safe...

...if you plan on traveling to an unfamiliar state then check the web for that particular state's vehicle and traffic laws before you go.

In NYC DO NOT turn right on red unless there's a sign posted allowing it! It is illegal to turn right on red in the 5 Boroughs of New York City unless there is signage allowing you to do so!
