Personal splash screen for Garmin c550

I'm very new with using a GPS and was just wondering if it's possible to make a personal splash screen for my c550?

If it is ... then can you tell me where to find info about what I need to do to accomplish this?

Yes you can

The c530 can take any jpeg that you store on it and use it as the splash screen. You set the new splash screen through the tools (wrench)>>display function.

Splash Screen Size

Anyone know what size JPG to use for the splash screen so it won't be resized on a nuvi?

Check stored jpeg on your GPS

There should be a stored image on your GPS. It is a duplicate of the splash screen. Connect GPS to your computer and then download that image to determine the size. They might be different for different versions of GPSr.

Thank You!

I just loaded one of our photos as a Splash and it worked perfectly after I resized it to 320 x 240.

again, thanks!

nuvi screen size

As the size of the nuvi screens is 320x240, that should be the optimum size for a .jpg file to use as a splash screen. It is also the best size for other .jpg files that you use in the "Picture viewer" to conserve memory space.

Splash Screen Size

The photos I upload to the nuvi are 320x240, but the splash screen image is smaller. The nuvi will resize the 320x240 image so it can display it above the text.

I think the question is, "What size can the image be and not be resized"?

320 x 240

My TomTom has a 3.5" screen and the custom 'splash screen' I have on it is 320 x 240 as well.

It's a safe bet that ALL GPSr's with 3.5" screens will support 'splash screens' having dimensions of 320 x 240 or smaller.
