Deleting old MapSource/Express Maps

What's the best way to delete old maps? I have them back to 2008. I don't see a way in MapSource. Do you just delete the directory?

Well ...

If you installed them using Express or MapUpdater you can uninstall them through Windows control panel, uninstall

Other option is JaVaWas GMTK program.

MapInstaller and WebUpdater

Control Panel uninstalled the old maps no problem. Freed up about 10GB.

Is there any reason to keep MapInstall or WebUpdater anymore?

Well ...

MapInstall is included in BaseCamp so in my book no. Just be aware that MapInstall bundled with the latest version of BaseCamp, which is 4.7, doesn't work correctly.

Be Aware

Basecamp does not work well with 15+ year old GPS devices. I still use Mapsource and Mapinstall for my GPS III+ and GPS V receivers. I also use Mapsource occasionally for quick simple tasks sometimes in conjunction with Basecamp.

If all your equipment is relatively new and you're happy using Basecamp, then IMO, you have no need to keep the older software.

from time to time

I would have problems locating the garmin maps, usually because I believe hidden folders would need to be shown in windows. Last time I found this info (copy/paste)

e Please follow these steps:

Press the Windows key + "R" to open the "Run" command.
Type in %programdata%garmincoreservicedownloadsmap and press "Enter".
Here it will list all the maps (in folders) it still has stored in temporary memory. Right-click on a map folder you want deleted.
Select "Delete".
When prompted, confirm you want to delete the folder.

I don't have Basecamp

I have MapInstall from back when my Nuvi 200 couldn't hold the entire NA map, so I had to split it between the nuvi and an SD card. The only nuvi have have now is a a modern one with sufficient space for the entire map. My MapInstall version is 3.13.2.0

I used MapSource to backup my Favorites and plan routes, but that isn't an issue either.

Express seems to have done away with the need for WebUpdater.

I guess I can safely uninstall all three.

Older maps

I only keep the current map issue as well the one before that. If you use Windows uninstall, it leaves much behind, I.e in the registry and more. I use Revo Uninstaller which does a more complete job.
