Optimize Route

I used to play around with route optimize on my older nuvi's that don't have trip planner. Basically all it did is reorder the intermediate waypoints to the most efficient sequence and recalculate the route. I used to use this method frequently to reverse a multipoint route by moving the original start point to the destination and the original destination to the start. Optimize would then effectively reverse the route.

I have not tried to optimize a route on my newer Trip Planner devices, so maybe it does something different on those models.

Check your Route Aviods, Tolls, Area Avoids.

Thanks phranc. I'll check, but how does Optimize alter that?

Most times when I set up a route, it is already optimized by my favorites/waypoint selection. Then if I chose Optimize, it just comes up that it is already optimized. The odd time if I screw up, then it will re-arrange the favorites/waypoints.

Good to know - guess if you have several local stops and were not sure of the best order it might come in handy.

It doesn't but you said you were getting odd routing before Optimization.

Without giving away any personal data, give us the stops you wanted to make.

I was just thinking, if you want to see for yourself how or what it does, set up a route from A to B and add a few via points in between. Then add one in the wrong sequence and Optimize should re-arrange the route.

I've seen how it works, and haven't had problems with it. I was just hoping to maybe duplicate what the OP was seeing.

Avoidances are ok, but had on custom avoidance, but routing would take me around that anyway.
