How to use the camera icon on a 3597

I guess I found it. Yes, I turned it on under display.
Must connect to computer to access the screen shots.

I wish I found the need to use this more. I really think it's a nice feature.

Correct.

To disable the Screenshot function, from the Main Menu > Settings > Display > uncheck the box in Screenshot.

My old nüvi 750 had this feature and I think many models have in the past and it has been continued at least to the 3597.

One would have to use their imagination on what to use it for; as mentioned, it only takes screenshots. At one time, I had written some tutorials on how to use a Garmin and these screenshots were useful for illustrating examples. Perhaps it was intended to be a way to capture errors that could be sent to Garmin tech support. The average consumer may little use for it.

I've noted a bug with it on my 3597 lately. When enabled and I've captured a screenshot or 2, the volume goes to max on the turn directions and the volume slider makes no difference. The only way I've found to regain control of the volume is to power it off and on. It never does that if the camera feature is turned off.

Why.. under what circumstance.. would anyone want to capture a screen shot.. short of making a tutorial for a friend. Seems like a foolish waste of code.

Most Garmin devices including their handhelds have this facility. Can be useful when trying to describe either what to do or what is going wrong.

I use Screenshot to record routes created by my 3597. There are often many using the same origin and destination. It seems to depend on the "mood" of the GPS at the time. I compare them later and make note of the ones that work best. I then recreate that route using trip planner, save it and export it to the 3597.

I often navigate between the same two points 2 or 3 times per year. I use the route created with trip planner instead of putting up with the "schizophrenic" routing of the 3597.

Screen shots have been useful in many forums when trying to illustrate something being discussed. Unfortunately POI Factory does not allow embedded images in posts, so screen shots have not been as popular here as they are in other forums. However, links to screen shot images are still sometimes used at POI Factory. Here is one example from one of my posts:

Another useful feature that you can use it when selling a GPS on Ebay. Rather than taking pictures with a camera, you can display screen shots such as Map Info version view as well as various screens available on the particular model.

You still would need to take pictures with a camera to show the condition of the GPS including any accessories it comes with.
