2019.10 Map Not Available to Me

Saw the thread about map update 2019.10 available (as of three weeks ago). Just now plugged in my 2689 and ran Garmin Express. It says I am up to date (with 2018.30). Any ideas on what is going on?

There's some conjecture that the update has been pulled for a problem in the file. Stick around. As soon as it becomes available, someone will post.

If you meant 2018.40 rather than 2017.40, there wasn't a 2018.40.

Give This A Try

Perhaps you can delete your Nuvi 2689 from Garmin Express.
Then remove the Nuvi from the PC and shut it down.
Then reboot the Nuvi and see if Express recognizes it and offers the 2019.10 map.

I have a friend with a 2689 and he had no issues updating the map to 2019.10

Version Of Garmin Express?

muell9k wrote
What version of Garmin Express are you using?

It doesn't matter if it's a brand new computer, as long as you able to connect with Garmin Express the program will recognize the 2689 is connected and offer you to update the map to 2019.10.

If it still shows the 2018.30 map, I again suggest you as stated in my prior post
"delete your Nuvi 2689 from Garmin Express.
Then remove the Nuvi from the PC and shut it down.
Then reboot the Nuvi and see if Express recognizes it and offers the 2019.10 map."

If that doesn't work, check Garmin Express to see if has a newer version of Express and see if that solves the problem.

I just checked GE for the update. It is showing that my 3597 has 2019.10 installed, but my son's 3597, (which I haven't updated yet), is only showing 2018.30 available. Therefore, it appears that 2019.10 is not available at this time. (I wonder what the issue is and the reason behind them pulling it.)

Chat with Rep

I accidently posted this in another thread but this one was more appropriate;

Had a online chat with a Garmin rep named 'Kevin' yesterday (2/21), said the 2019.10 map WAS pulled and they are waiting for their map maker to replace it.

He would not give a reason why, nor would he commit to a get well date.
Just 'soon'.

It's still February 2018, and they're up to 2019.10?

As an experiment I am in the process of reinstalling it although painfully slow (1hr 46 min).

It appears that you CANNOT download the 2019.10 map when using an older map. Member PaulieUrethane indicates with his discussion with Garmin claims they will be replacing it.
I don't know if it will be a amended map of 2019.10 or a version named 2019.11. We will just wait and see.

GE 6.1.2

I just launched Garmin Express and it downloaded version 6.1.2 (Mac) and when I opened it, I was offered the choice of reinstalling 2019.10 which I assume was already an option. I can't tell if the reinstall was a different 2019.10. I would think if Garmin is doing something in the background, the presumably corrected version would be 2019.11.

The reinstall of the 2019.10 direct from Garmin using Express 6.1.1.0 and to GPS only not to PC.
The download was successful and the GPS seems to work properly.

I'm curious to know what Garmin needed to pull the 2019.10 unless the information it contains is inaccurate.
Not happy about this, more work to download the revised map when it becomes available.

From what I could see, the smaller file was a timezone update that with the exception of one town in Nevada, didn't have anything different for those of us in North America.

Timezone Update.

I think the update was for the Timezone map file (gmaptz.img). At least that is what I got yesterday on my 3597. You can look at the date on the gmaptz.img file to see if that is what you got.

That file is only 589KB's. I'm sure hoping they add this file to an update for the ones that have 2019.10 already installed. For that matter why pull the map just to change that file by itself? We've had timezone file updates before and they were option files.

My 3597 already had the 2019.10 map, so all yesterday's update did is replace the gmaptz.img file ... just took a minute or so. Maybe I don't understand what you are saying Speed2.

pull a map just for this little file? It will tell you what the update is for and then you can decide if you need it. This is a timezone file!!! Holy smokes.... lets just pull the Map cause some poor person somewhere doesn't have the right time and so we have decided that the 2019.10 Map needs to be removed. hmm

OK.

I think I understand what you are saying. I suspect the new timezone map is not the reason they have stopped distributing the 2019.10 map since they are providing the timezone update separately. There is probably some other problem with 2019.10. It makes me wonder if we will ever find out, or if they will just wait until 2019.20 comes out before they make another map version available for download.

I agree with you Alan, I sincerely hope that there are other issues for pulling the map other than the timezone map.
That would not make sense at all.

2019.10

To test this out, I backnleveled my nuvi 755T to the 2018.20 map (using a backup I have). I then installed Garmin Express 6.1.1.0 on my wife's computer, making sure there were no previous map updates on that computer. I plugged in my nuvi 755T, added it to Garmin Express and checked for updates. It offered 2 updates ... the Timezone map update and the 2019.10 map update. I was expecting it to offer the 2018.30 map since it is reported here that Garmin has pulled 2019.10. But nope! It offers 2019.10 to me. So now I am completely confused. Does this mean that Garmin has pulled the 2019.10 only for certain device models?

I installed the Timezone map update first. That took only about a minute. The map update is downloading now and appears to be progressing normally. If I encounter any problems with the map update, I will post it, but it looks like the 2019.10 update is working for me.

Model-specific "No Updates"

alandb wrote:

There was a time in the past which I just tried and failed to find in the forums where a City Navigator North America map update came out that had problems with only certain nuvi models. Until a fix was found, some models were not offered the update while others continued to be offered the new map. I believe I was affected making me think it applied to the nuvi 855.

Given Garmin's lack of explanation for why the current map was pulled(?) for some(?) models, we can only guess if this is the case again.

2019.10

The 2019.10 update completed successfully on my 755T. Using back leveled clones of my 3597LMTHD and 855, the 2019.10 update is also being offered. I am not going to proceed with the clone updates, but I am sure it would be successful if I did.

So maybe we should make a list of which models are not being offered the update. Or maybe it is not model specific. Does Garmin have multiple server farms? Maybe the problem is based on where Garmin Express sends you for the update. Could it be regional?

For the curious

Time Zone Map:

Changes made from version 20.00 to 21.00:

Northern Cyprus has decided to resume EU rules starting 2017-10-29, thus reinstituting winter time.

Republic of Sudan- National Telecommunication Cooperation stated a change of time (to be GMT +2 instead of GMT +3) is going to be permanently starting from 1st November 2017. This will not affect South Sudan.

Fiji will end DST on 2018-01-14, not 2018-01-21.

Turks and Caicos- DST will be reintroduced on March 11, 2018.

Tonga has likely ended its experiment with DST, and will not adjust its clocks on 2017-11-05.

2019.10 Strange Size

I have 7 different map releases on my hard drive. Here are their respective sizes:
2016.20 6.08GB
2017.10 6.19GB
2017.30 6.95GB
2018.10 7.0GB
2018.20 7.05GB
2018.30 7.05GB
2019.10 3.52GB
My 2019.10 was installed on Jan 25 with no problems on both my 3590 and 3597 but as you can see, the size of the last download was significantly smaller. Both GPS's are seemingly running fine.
I thought the size was a little odd, but my units are working.

As I posted earlier my friend has a 2689 and had no issues downloading the 2019.10 map so it's not likely it is model # specific. I may be wrong but perhaps sixeye may have an issue with his PC's software.

I wish Garmin be more transparent when informing members that that call that there is an issue with this map version. Maybe the customer service rep was wrong.

It seems to me users that download the 2019.10 map were able to get it installed early on, we don't know exactly went Garmin realized the problem.

I would imagine Garmin MUST Name the new map something OTHER THAN 2019.10 since this may prove to be an issue for those of us that already have the 2019.10 installed.

Garmin Express may see it as the map the map is up to date even though it may be a revised edition of 2019.10 map, that may prove to be an issue.

We just will have to wait see how Garmin gets this resolved.
