I'm in process of updating my old Nuvi 1490LMT since my newer 2599LMTHD "bricked". I have downloaded & extracted large Javier file to my PC.
I have installed SD card to 1490LMT with Garmin folder and sub folder JCV. Question...do I still need to run Garmin Express or do I just copy extracted, large jcv file to installed SD card ?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
Copy
The Large JCV file can just be copied to the Garmin/JCV folder of the SD card. Be sure to disable or delete the small default file that was installed during the last map update. You may need to fully power down and reboot the nuvi with SD card after this for the nuvi to look for a different file name and different folder location.
Just to be sure, install the map update first with Garmin Express, then do the JCV file tinkering.
Craig, thanks for your
Craig, thanks for your prompt response. Is it correct to assume any changes that GE makes during update can be left alone other than disabling small jcv file ?
Yes

Yes, as long as you're only switching JCV files, you're OK.
Works great !!
Craig,
Followed your guidance...all went well. My aged 1490LMT is backup and running with latest mapset & large JCV's.
Thanks again.
Well done
