Same map, 2 different routes in 2 different Garmin models

Dear experts:

Facts:

* Garmin Nuvi 50 LM with OpenMapChest 2017.10.18
* Garmin Nuvi 57 with the same map
* Route tested: LAX Airport (CA) to San Luis Obispo City (CA)
* Same navigation preferences and avoidances in both GPS (faster time, U-Turns, Carpool Lanes, Unpaved Roads)
* Both GPS in simulation mode

In the Nuvi 50 the route and distance is correctly displayed; in the Nuvi 57 it shows a completely wrong route (going east first, making the trip around 7 hours longer). Please see attached links.

Any ideas or comments?

Map Routing?

Looking at your screen shots when using the 57 route it shows it was going southeast (towards San Diego) totally inaccurate.
Are you sure you typed in the address correctly for the city you wanted to go to?

Another suggestion is have you tried unchecking the OPENMapChest map and using the CN North America 2018.30 map and see what results you get there?

Yep ...

I'd certainly try it with the CN NA map and see what happens. I have no experience of the OpenMapChest map but OSM maps don't always provide the best routing. Why different units route differently could simply be down to a slight change in the routing algorithm.

Please let us know what you found.
It would be helpful if mrclinker provided us with the address he was going to.

Forgot to mention that in

Forgot to mention that in both GPS I uploaded the same POI file, using Garmin POI Loader software.

I used those loaded POI (the one for LAX and the one for San Luis Obispo City) to test the route.

The point I uploaded for LAX Airport is: 33.95471807,-118.37625028,"Alamo LAX Airport"

The point I uploaded for San Luis Obispo City is: 35.32737742,-120.72593977,"San Luis Obispo"

So, this is really strange!!!

Using the Garmin map the

Using the Garmin map the route is correct; I am just preparing the Nuvi 57 (the one with only the OpenMapChest map) because I am going to lend it to a friend who is going to USA soon.

I just wanted to check if the unit was working properly and in the first test I ran, I found this!!!

855 and 2797

On my trip south I d a m n near threw the 855 out the window at 70Mph. It was acting up so bad.

Same bad routing in Garmin Nuvi 67

Follow up:

Inserted the memory card of the Nuvi 57 in a Nuvi 67, and it shows the same incorrect route between LAX and San Luis Obispo using the same map. Upgraded today to the latest firmware software in the Nuvi 57 and 67, the same problem!!!

If I insert the memory card in my Nuvi 50 LM, the route shown is correct!!!

A very interesting behavior!!! It looks like the problem is not in the map but in the way this two models (57 and 67) are routing the trip.

map routing

This is why I avoid using these devices as point and shoot. Results are to unreliable. I build the routes in Mapsource. Review any questions in Google Earth then transfer the route(s) to Base Camp to up load into the newer Nuvi's. Sometimes when we stop for lunch the GPSr will recalculate a new and slightly different route. My older 550 tends not to do that.
